Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

SingaporeWe are a family of 5, occupying 2 rooms. The washing machine and the dryer in the shower/bath room were such life saver. The staff spoke very good English and they were very realiable. They helped us booked our taxis on the first day and made sure they saw us off on the 3rd day early in the morning. They introduced us the places to go to for yummy local food. The rooms are clean and tidy, I really could not fault anything.

United StatesNot all rooms have attached private balconies. There is a shared rooftop space that guests have access to.
The staff at this hotel were welcoming and helpful. I particularly appreciated how a staff member showed up to our room and explained how to do laundry. When traveling in a different country, this attention to detail made our stay that much easier. We also loved the water pressure in the shower and felt squeaky clean! The hotel's location is perfect for a first-time visitor to Kyoto as you are very centrally located. I highly recommend this hotel.

AustraliaThe owners, a wife and husband team, and ALL the staff were very welcoming.and friendly. I stayed for a total of 6 nights. Every morning the owner ( who has previously worked in Australia in the travel industry) gave me good tourist advice and helped me with transportation info etc. When I returned every evening the staff welcomed me and asked how my day went. I felt like I was returning to family. The location is excellent. You can easily walk to Gion area and major tourist sites. I had a fantastic and enriching week in Kyoto thanks in part to the wonderful owners and staff at Hotel GOCO.

United StatesThe nearest train station was about 12-13 minutes away. Which doesn't seem that bad, but if you're planning on traveling outside of the prefecture, the time wasted starts adding up where you're spending close to 25-30 minutes for a round trip to the hotel. We had trouble deciding if we should go back to the hotel to rest during midday or continue to torture our feet by going to the next scheduled event. I should also mention that after a long 12 hour day, a 13 minute walk feels like a lifetime.
There are too many good qualities of staying at Hotel Goco. For me personally, the best quality...was the staff. This place feels like a small boutique hotel, but with the quality of a 5 star commercial hotel. Staff was tremendously welcoming and friendly. We were personally escorted to the room and shown how to use the amenities in the room. The room itself was quite spacious for two people. The room included a washing machine and we did do laundry during our stay. It was extremely fast and easy to use. The one downside is that you had to hang your clothes in the bathroom, above the shower area. If you're planning on doing a lot of a laundry, prepare enough time early to do your laundry. The surrounding area is amazing. Nishiki Market was about 3-4 minutes away going west. Gion district was about 10-15 minutes away going east. There are also surrounding shops, restaurants, gachapon, and arcades, and pachinko nearby. Don quijote is also close by for shopping.

A wonderful experience: it might seem that the location of this hotel is its winning element, but actually the incredible team is what made our stay here so outstanding! Mayumi was so caring with us, recommending the best spots in the city, going above and beyond to research what would best suit what we were looking for, we cannot thank her and her team enough! Everything else is also great: location, room, amenities, cleaning - we were so well taken care of!

United StatesWas really pleasantly surprised by the size of the room, larger than our other stays in Japan. Comfy and larger bed as well! Clothes drying setup was not familiar to us as Americans, but after we got used to it it works much better than the combo washer-dryers at keeping your clothes less wrinkled. The staff were very nice and informative about places to sight see in the area.

United StatesNothing at all!
We booked 3 rooms for 6 adults and over the course of our 9 night Japan trip, Hotel GOCO Stay Kyoto Shijo Kawaramachi was our favorite property! This small, boutique style property seamlessly bridges an apartment style rental with a hotel. Granted, the rooms on the smaller size but it provides everything needed for a comfortable stay. There is a mini kitchen, washing machine and a private rooftop to gather. The property is owned and run by a kind husband and wife couple who work extraordinarily hard to care for their guests. The rest of their staff are terrific too and always welcome you home with a smile, kind words and everyone is so helpful and they all speak English. The icing on the cake is that the location just can’t be beat. The property is located on a quiet street between Shijo-dori and the famous Nishiki Ichiba. It’s a short 30-60 second walk, left or right when exiting the hotel, to hit either location. Like they say, good things come in small packages! Mahalo nui from your Hawaiian friends…we look forward to seeing you again soon!

United StatesHad the most wonderful stay here. The staff were more than accommodating and super helpful and polite. Location was great - close to the subway and local train stations, right by the main shopping street and Nishiki market, yet it was super quiet in the actual hotel itself. Would definitely come back the next time we're in Kyoto.
