Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

French PolynesiaNo extra pillow and the pillows are not as fluffy and firm as we are used to...beds can be hard too
The location is fine. Breakfast is a ticket then you go to a small bakery to pick up your food for 600 yens. The rest was nice. Don't forget to ask your extra pillow when you arrive especially because you don't have many of them !

PortugalThe room is sooooo Small. And the beds are rocks. Very hard. If you have back pain, avoid it. The breakfast is nice, because they give you a voucher of 600 yens to spend at a close bakery. The problem is milk and so that you must buy at a close convenience store. But is a Great option for non japanese guests. It is very cheap and has a good location.

United KingdomThe location and rooms were great. The rooms were a bit bigger than my other hotels. The beds are a little bit on the firm side but ok. I requested an extra pillow and was given a neck pillow which was great. The washing machine driers were great and inexpensive . It would be nice to have some sort of communal or seating area in the lobby. If I was travelling solo I would really miss that.

LithuaniaSmall room. Breakfast at nearby Brother Bakery Sanjo is actually the coupon to choose from range of bakery products but no coffee or even place to sit is available, although the bakery itself is nice with selection of different tasty things.
Location! Close to the Nijo castle, Nishiki maket , transport etc. Clean. Fresh. Good shower.

MalaysiaThe room is quite small. It is not recommended if you have lots of luggage. The breakfast option was only breads and cakes, and it is not in the hotel. You have to walk for about 2-3 minutes. The value for the breakfast coupon is only up to 600yen, excluding tax. You've got to prepare your own coffee in your room.
It was clean and the staff were friendly and helpful. The beds were comfortable. Facilities are good. The hotel is near the street where there are a lot of options for food.

AustraliaThe beds were quite hard, but it's understandable given the price point. Be aware there is an extra accommodation tax when you arrive; this is apparently standard across Kyoto, but we didn't know about it. It would be great if the property could let customers know beforehand that they will be charged a little extra upon arrival.
The room was unbelievably spacious for this price point in Japan. Super clean and comfortable. The staff were lovely and we were able to leave our luggage before check in. Convenient location with lots to explore nearby (don't miss Nijojo castle!) and great bus and subway connectivity.

South AfricaWhilst the room was spotless, I was shocked to see that you don’t use mattress and pillow protectors. The pillows fell out of the oversized pillow cases and fitted sheet came off the mattress. This means that overtime your exposed pillows and mattresses will become filthy from dead skin, saliva and goodness knows what else!
Location was excellent. The room was very clean.

GermanyThere was a surcharge of 1,300¥ which wasn’t mentioned during the booking. Would still come back any time though. We both really enjoyed the stay.
The staff at the reception desk were very kind and welcoming. They were always there, even at night when we had a question. The check in was easy and there were so many free toiletries like face wash, combs, moisturiser, razors and much more. The property has a laundromat and dryer (which costs some money though). The place is located near Nijo Castle and there’s a bus station nearby. You can take a bus from Kyoto Station there easily. There are a few convenience stores within walkable distance and there’s a shopping street nearby too. The area was quite quiet at night, but it was a bit far from any of the main tourist attractions. Overall the room was quite big, in comparison to some other places I’ve stayed in Japan. The beds were comfortable and there was even a free pyjama for us. They brought fresh towels and pyjama every day! Depending on your length of stay there is no deep room cleaning (for environmental reasons supposedly) but the light cleaning can be done every day and includes new towels and taking out trash for example. The room also had a fridge, kettle and TV, which was all really nice to use. The toilet was very clean and the shower was comfortable. We would have gladly extended our stay, but it was already booked out for the next days. The price was amazing too!!
