Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United KingdomThe rooms were generally clean but there was a lot of hair on the carpet still that definitely wasn't mine. We also could have done with one more pillow each and a safe for our valuables. There wasn't a luggage forwarding facility at the hotel but they were able to point us to the Lawson next door who could did it instead.
The hotel was in a great location and the staff at the front desk were helpful. We had the basic facilities that we needed and there were shops and restaurants close by.

IrelandAdvertising is deceiving as I presume all rooms would have a view of the Temple even though doors are pulled over in some photos. Coming from Ireland I thought I would have a traditional Japanese view but not to be. 😕
The decor, location all good.

United KingdomThe eco cleaning service is okay, but it would be nicer if it was possible to have the beds made, and the cleaner did not remove the bag of trash from our room properly during our stay (we even separated the PET bottles out for them). The decor is also a little run down with staining of the tatami mats etc., but it is a good and safe place to rest your head.
Convenient location for walking or getting the subway to Kyoto's sights, with a convenience store and restaurants just below. The room had a view of the temple next door and traditional style decor. A basic but good place to stay.

AustraliaCleanliness. Was dirty with marks on floor, hairs on bed and around bathroom. Pillows were very uncomfortable and bed was hard.
Liked the Traditional feel with the comfort of western bathrooms. Location was good for main shopping street and a 20/30 min walk to attractions on the west side of town and train station.

Hotel was kind enough to let us check in early and store our luggage until 6pm. Location is in a quiet area but accessible to the busier parts of the city. Facilities were clean and fully equipped.

United Arab EmiratesLocation is a bit of a trek from Kyoto station for walking. Not many nearby bike sharing parking options.
Room is nice, clean, and quiet. Bathroom is good with shower, no bathtub. Property is pretty central to visiting highlights around Kyoto. Surrounding neighborhood is quiet. Nice base from which to explore Kyoto.

United KingdomIt would have been good to have had our bin emptied at least once during our 4 day stay.
The room was tastefully designed and well equipped. The hotel was very quiet and warm. The staff were helpful and responded to requests quickly. We were able to leave our luggage free of charge on the day we checked out which was helpful. We had a very comfortable stay here. Try the ramen bar next door (Michelin rated). It is always sold out but if you take a ticket from the staff at the door you can wait in your room until the time of your booking. It’s worth it.

United KingdomThe hotel needs to promote its English name "Crush On" more in its publicity. Because its reliance in Kanji and Hiragana scripts in its marketing 谷町君・ホテルひとめぼれ 京都四条烏丸, we were never really sure what it was called. Furthermore, we were using the Japan Travel Navitime app for navigation. It thought it recognised the hotel but sent us to a completely different location. We then used Google Maps to try to find the address. It sent us to the right location but it did not recognise there being a hotel there. It may be helpful to mention that it is opposite the Bukko-Ji Temple.
Very good design. Clean lines making excellent use of existing space, which provided plenty of comfort for our four night stay. Great value for money

United KingdomRoom not cleaned when requested so no point in the request sign. Locking mechanism on the door difficult to set up and made awful loud noise when not used correctly. Someone tried to open our room door by using the key pad repeatedly in the middle of the night.
The layout of the room was nice but on the small side, no view out of the window like the pictures. Good location close to metro and buses all within a 10 minute walk.

United KingdomThe shower felt like that out of a caravan but it was good enough for a few days. The toilet also hadn’t been throughly cleaned and was a tiny bit of mould around the rim - that said it was not much at all and not easily noticeable. The sound proofing of the room is basically nonexistent but only was noticeable during the day when there was roadworks outside.
The location was good for exploring Kyoto and having the digital key-pad lock was good as meant there was no key to misplace. There was a small fridge in the room which was very useful. The bed was also large and comfortable.

United KingdomHard to find ad there's 3 hotels next to each other and they have no sign. Google maps location is also slightly wrong and sends you to an abandoned building. It wasn't as clean as other hotels we stayed in Japan.
