Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United KingdomThis hostel was great! We loved the location and the breakfast was amazing. All the staff were friendly and very helpful. Only improvement would have been to have a shelf or somewhere to place my phone when I slept.

United KingdomLoved the laid back vibe of Ichiro’s place. Fantastic location just down the way from one of the underground stations. Also perfectly placed for all of Kyoto’s east side attractions and wondeful restaurants and izakayas within a few minutes walk. Ichiro’s breakfasts are fab and it was always nice to chill with Jiro the wonder dog! Many thanks all! Steve

LaosThere were some noises from the cars in the street. We were able to sleep nevertheless.
It was a nice little house. The shared facilities were clean. We had no problem using the toilets or the shower room(there are two). Thr breakfast was really good and good value for money. Location wise it's also close to a few attractions and some good restaurants. We had 2 small suitcases and a large one and were able to bring them upstairs.

MalaysiaIt is an old (house/shop) building. So, the insulation is not very good in winter. Very cold even with the heater turned on.
Breakfast was good. Location is a few minutes walk to the underground Metro/Subway or the Bus Stop. Quiet neighborhood. Lawson store across the road.

United KingdomMy bed had a big dip in the mattress, so was slightly uncomfortable. Wish the showers were a touch hotter, but they were perfectly comfortable nonetheless.
Location is excellent for getting around the temple-rich area of East Kyoto. The breakfast buffet is excellent especially considering how expensive food is in Kyoto. There is free coffee and tea all day, which makes the place so homely. Staff are friendly and speak great English. The dog is quiet and super well behaved. The mixed dorm overlooks the courtyard, so is quiet and the curtains offer excellent blackout. Had lovely time with the other guests and extended my stay twice!

SwedenThe showers did not get really hot, so it was usually lukewarm showers, and the isolation is not the best, but again, it's 150 yrs old, so what can you expect really.
Really cute guest house with authentic Kyoto vibes. Really enjoyed my stay! Jiro the dog and the breakfast was definitely the highlights! Overall a very pleasant stay.

South KoreaI had an amazing time and can't ask for more, but just to help people make informed decisions Some rooms are facing the road; I slept very well regardless, but some might find car noises loud at night Also, note that not everyone would find guesthouse in general as most comfy
I stayed here 13 nights, and I will definitely come back if visiting Kyoto. Some highlights were: Kind and caring staff Nice breakfast (I was too well-fed) Everything is very organised (and systematised) The cozy atmosphere of a traditional Japanese house Jiro the Shiba Inu

IndiaI absolutely loved this hostel - the owner, Jiro, Shoko san, and other staff - everyone was such a delight to meet. the guest house is a traditional old Japanese style wooden house - which must be experienced! Breakfast - made with soo much love, not only was a balanced variety of foods provided, the host provided many seasonal fruit options! The positive attitude is so infectious - even the guests were in delightful mood when lounging. I do miss Jiro - the cutest Shiba I met in Japan. I take very fond memories from here - and wish to see them whenever I'm in kyoto!

Great little hostel with good vibe. Fantastic value for Kyoto. The absolute best breakfast we had in any accommodation in Japan! So much variety including lots of fruit, cannot believe breakfast is included for this price. Good location, 5mins walk from metro stop, 10min walk from Ninenzaka street. Walkable to Gion and kiyomizudera temple. Some great affordable restaurants nearby. Good storage lockers - can’t quite get a large backpack in but can get essentials/valuables in. Does not offer luggage forwarding but is directly opposite Lawson who were able to do this for us. V helpful staff and lovely family.

New ZealandAs pictured, but something to bear in mind- the beds have a railing so it is difficult to get in and out of the beds. Definitely bring earplugs if you’re a light sleeper bc the road noises are really loud!
Jiro was adorable and the breakfast was amazing! Owner and workers are super nice and friendly. Nice social vibe, location was good- train station and bus stop to Kyoto station nearby, plenty of shops and shrines within walking distance. Not far from the main shops, no queue for toilet or shower.
