Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United StatesThis place is definitely in an odd location, but there are still places to eat nearby. The trains here only run every 15 minutes since it isn't on the express.
This place was cute and quirky. It was a solid place to stay and very budget friendly. It is only two stops to Kyoto Station and the Kyoto Railway Museum and the Botanical Garden.

United StatesThe check-in process was a little weird.
The room was nice, clean, and bigger than we expected. The area was somewhat close to the train station and had interesting local breakfast spots near by.

United StatesWe stayed for 5 nights and the rooms don't get made up. Just trash and towels. The front desk is only minimally manned. The rooms are really small, although that is pretty much the norm in Japan.
It was clean, beds were good and although not right in the center of the city close to transportation. The hotel is in a former red light district with interesting old houses. The bathroom was modern and had good plumbing and the room was creatively decorated although the idea of 12 TVs is rather whacky. We unplugged them because it can't be healthy to have all those rays on you all night...

SpainThere was dust in the room and unfortunately the carpet was not very clean. The coffee machine didn’t work. The location is “ok” but not great, especially given that the transport network in Kyoto is not the best (if you want to visit Gion for example it will take you 45mins)
The room was very big and the staff is friendly. There are free amenities in the lobby. The neighborhood is very calm and not crowded at all (mostly residential) and I highly recommend to relax each night at the onsen nearby (only 100m from the hotel), it is fantastic and a real local experience (the restaurant is also very nice and not expensive)

United StatesNo microwave, so be prepared beforehand if you want to heat up some food. The staff also couldn't help us deliver our luggage to our next hotel stay.
A nice little hotel and the room had much more space than I initially thought. Our stay was very comfortable, the bed was huge and comfortable. The amenities were very nice and the staff did daily cleaning and towel changes. The hotel is close to the Tambaguchi Station if you need to use the train, and it's only about 2 stops from Kyoto Station. We enjoyed our stay and had didn't really have any issues with our room.

ChinaFirst off there is a City tax on tourists that was not included in the final price of the hotel. It is usually 200 yen per person per night. This was not communicated to me and instead I was pestered about it after already been checked in for quite some time and also been in the city a little far away from the hotel. The working times of the front staff are a little inconvenient if you need to pay and the hotel can’t expect the visitor to plan or change their trip just to accomodate this dereliction of service. There is also no signage that would suggest that the tax needed to be paid. Also the headboard around the bed was quite dusty and the shower is also quite small. If you are a person of size, I would not suggest booking here.
Not that far from Kyoto station.

United StatesBetween the station and accommodation is an active industrial site with heavy equipment moving around. The front desk was also unmanned much of the time, which made asking to hold luggage somewhat difficult. While I appreciate their contactless systems, I do think that in this case it can also be a hindrance.
Air conditioner was very cold even in the hottest September month. Room was very spacious, unique, plenty of storage, and in unit bathroom. They will hold luggage past your checkout time, and the staff are very kind.

DenmarkThe checkin process does not work. We completed it a week before arrival but never received a QR code to checkin. The checkin desk was always closed, and the hotel felt abandoned when we got there and the other days we stayed there. We arrived earlier than the checkin time and wanted to store our luggage, and it was a while before someone showed up. The checkin process later was also weird, where we were asked to do a review before having even stayed there.
The rooms were quite modern, as is the entire place as it operated almost entirely digitally.

AustraliaThe beds were terribly hard and uncomfortable. The location is a bit far from popular attractions but the station is close so it wasn’t a huge issues. This hotel also doesn’t offer luggage delivery which was quite the let down.
The room was very big size in comparison to any other room we stayed in Japan. The location is very quiet and calm which is a nice change from Tokyo. Lovely staff as well!

United KingdomThe check-in wasn't easy as we were travelling on the day of arrival so the barcode didn't come through. Luckily there was a member of staff in the reception when we arrived but the check-in was quite a slow process. Everything else was wonderful.

NorwayThe tap in the bathroom only had warm water if the shower was on at the same time. There was some info about "hot water taking some time" but in our experience it just never came, unless you turned on the shower. This was kind of a hassle, but we managed. It also seems like the walls aren't very thick, or maybe we were just really unlucky with our next door neighbors. Also, the trash wasn't taken out during our stay, even though we got an endless supply of fresh towels even when we clearly didn't need them, so we know people had been there.
Nice little hotel located a few minutes away from the Tambaguchi station, which we used often to travel in Kyoto. Although we didn't see much of the staff they all seemed nice. The room was spacious enough, with a window (not all rooms have that), and a huge bed.
