Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United KingdomListing advertised was for a 'single room', but what was provided was an 8 bed mixed dorm room opening directly onto a common area. The only thing delineating the space between the bed and the corridor was a thin, hospital-ward type curtain that didn't close all the way, and had space at both the bottom and the top, which the photos on the listing curiously avoided documenting. This meant that anyone coming up the stairs could see directly into the space, and also that whenever someone got up in the middle of the night, the automated lights would trip and wake everyone up. The suggested way of dealing with this absence of privacy was with a complex system of folding screens and clips - if you enjoy building a pillow fort every time you go to the bathroom then this is the place for you. Note that the hostel is also completely 'automated' (read: deserted) - so if you need help (or, more likely, to lodge a complaint) at any point during your stay - bad luck, you can't! They also rely on guests to individually lock the front door on their way out; needless to say, it was unlocked for the entire time I was there. An argument could have been made for this place as a bog standard hostel, albeit a pretty miserable one, if they'd been honest enough to put that on the listing. However, if I turned up to any hotel in the world, and the single room they advertised had no door, it would be a 1/10.
Location was fine. Cleaner (the only staff member on site) did a good job with the time and resources allotted to them, despite the shabby nature of the business itself.

GermanyThe "rooms", specifically that they we're advertised as single rooms and the conspicous absence of Photos showing, that they had no doors. These "rooms" we're so small, that our feet we're in the hall, over which people fell.
The Location was good.

Sri LankaPrivacy But the rooms are tiny and there are curtains instead of doors for the rooms. So the privacy is not the best in the world.
Location Good for a budget, solo traveler. It's worth the money I guess if you are a budget, solo traveler looking to spend the night, I spent 3 nights here. The location is a plus, walking distance to the metro and about 30 minutes away from central Tokyo.

United KingdomI think there are too many beds crammed into such a small space. It didn't feel comfortable. I did not have any contact with staff. I would say that it is a good place to stay for one night. The curtains do not hang low enough.
I liked the location and that it was very clean. The cold water machine was a life saver. I like the Japanese style.

SpainThey had double booked my space, they are not rooms, it's a dorm divided by curtains and screens. There was no bed for me. No staff to speak to, security code for front door written on the door. They have refused to refund my 4 night booking. Booking.com could not care less, they have been no help. I will make claim back with my bank. Worst experience ever.

FranceThe hostel has a confusing setting, it was frustrating. I don't understand why there is a big TV and big table downstairs when it's such a small space. A small long table against the wall would be great for people to work on their computer alone and eat too. It's for solo travelers and workers, they don't need a big family table. No elevator (but it's only one floor of stairs). The bathroom walls and ceiling need to be scrubbed with a wet towel regularly. The dirt is slowly building up (soap residue on the walls and dust on the fan). I don't understand the point of the kitchen sink and stove. People shouldn't be able to cook meat two meters from your bed. That's weird. Please, you don't have the space for a cooking area. I'd rather have a larger fridge instead. The curtains are not long enough. Having to grab a screen to cover the gap under the curtain is a bother, just make them slightly longer. But what was really a bad point for me was the bedding. A simple futon would be better and take less space. I couldn't change my bedsheets for 10 days, I wish they gave me at least one change of bedsheets since there is no staff inside the building to speak to. I felt dirty as I was sweaty at night, it was hot in Tokyo. And the sheets were in viscose or polyester, not in cotton so it makes you feel really hot. Basic cotton white sheets that most hotels use would be amazing in summer. Polyester makes it sweaty. (My previous hostel changed the bedsheets every three days and the current hostel I'm staying at told me that they give new sheets every 5 days. And both those hostels are using cotton white sheets. But both hotels have workers at the front desk to speak to.). I don't mind the fact that they don't have workers at the front desk but they should have an amazing communication online with a lot of informations but it's not the case.
Clean. Easy check in and check out. Towel provided. Subway station close by. Fridge and microwave. Water fountain. Wifi.

Czech RepublicThe self check-in procedure was a bit tricky but no major problems. Some electric sockets in our room were not working but we could live with it.
We had the separate bedroom for two people and it was really comfortable. It's also close to two railway stations so if you're using JR pass as we did you will have no problems getting there from other parts of Tokyo. Other facilities were fine.

SingaporeThe check in and check out processes were unfamiliar to me and took some understanding. But the hosts were responsive on the booking.com messaging system, usually about an hour. I would recommend that you check with them the door access code before you check in.
Facilities were good. Enough toilet and shower facilities. Two toilets and one shower cubicle (all private) on each level.

BrazilThe layout of the room is horrible. I understand this is supposed to be something like a hostel, but the "kitchen", bathroom sink and other appliances are in the middle of the room. Other guests were extremely noisy and disrespectful. E.g.: You are not supposed to take a shower after midnight, but a lady took a shower around 12:30 anyway, and she even used the hairdrier in the middle of the room. Later, at 4:30am a man was also being noisy and using the hairdrier. We complained that he was disturbing everyone but he simply ignored. On another day, somebody was making food at 10:30pm in front of my bed. Even if other guests are relatively quiet, the lights keep coming on and off all the time because the bathroom and sink are in the middle of the shared room. You could say that this is a problem of noisy guests, but in reality, the design of this place is completely absurd and I'm 100% sure the person that designed this place never spent a night there with other people.

SingaporeTypical of Tokyo budget accommodations space is small though bigger than capsule. The foldable screen to block the gap of the curtain can fall often and the walkway is quite narrow and need to take care to not accidentally pull open the curtains of other 'quarters'. I found potato chips bits on the bed sheet when I first spread it out and no it's not from me.... 😣 Because the electric stove was on the 2nd floor, other guests were eating in their quarters behind the curtains instead of bringing the food downstairs to the common sitting area where the TV is.
Good location accessible by JR line. But JR trains to Tokyo station can be very packed even outside of rush hours. Allocated space is much bigger than capsule and you can stand straight and enough for my big backpack. Quiet residential area near the Nippori Fabric town. Interesting eateries within walking distance away from crowded touristy areas. The staff are very friendly when you meet them when they arrive to clean the place. There's a male staff who sleeps in at the guest house in the staff room. He's friendly too. There's a small fridge where you can store food. There's free hot water. Pod Coffee and tea, sugar is available for 100yen on the ground floor.
