Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)

To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.

In summer change the duvet for a light coverlet or sheet. It is too hot for a duvet even with aircon because it’s set at 20C.
Loved the location and the fact it’s vegan. Clean. friendly staff. Great value for money.

There was nothing I didn't like.
The rooms are very good, everything was clean and towels changed everyday. Breakfast was great and to mention the free sake on the bar - amazing! The best is the staff. Awesome people with great manager. We stayed at the bar talking to the staff for ours drinking cocktails and sake. Most amazing hotel staff I ever talk to in my life. The location is also great with bus stops and subway station nearby. Kyoto tower is 10 min. away walking. I strongly recommend Imu hotel in Kyoto! Thanks guys, I hope we will be back there soon!

Nothing is really that bad to mention. The hotel is honest with what it offers and the price that it is offered. Embrace that free sake and be happy!!!
Free sake!!!! They really got me with that. I love sake! Also, they have bunk beds. And maybe you think is a bad idea, but we loved it! The lover bed is big enough for the two of you if you really love each other and you are on the small size, but then you have the top bed for extra space. Love it! Breakfast is good too.

The room didn't have many facilities and had just one pillow which was not so comfortable. Also the view from a window was to a wall to the next building, so not so enjoyable.
The location was good, near to a metro and bus stations, in a very quiet area. There were however many restaurants nearby. The staff was very friendly and helpful. They offer free water and sake.

Quite a small room but nicely designed and no problem for a family of four.
Really nice hotel in great location. Most areas walkable and short distance from main line stations. Staff lovely and couldn't do more to make an enjoyable stay. Very clean, modern and comfortable. Great bar and restaurant that caters for most dairy and gluten intolerances as well as vegetarian and vegan. Very nice food (breakfast and dinner) and even free sake!

I stayed here in 2019 and it was a wonderful experience. That is why I decided to go back. The staff is amazing and very helpful. The rooms are tidy and comfortable. The breakfast is very good and there is free sake every evening.

Lovely staff. Always said hello & goodbye / acknowledged you when you were walking through the reception/bar area. Bed & pillows were comfortable + room a decent size. Good value for money for the 4 nights we stayed.

Room cleaning was not very thorough, they only seemed to empty the garbage and fold the towels.
Great location, not too far from main attractions and lots of great local cafes and restaurants around

The room had a weird smell. As if someone used to smoke there and they tried to cover it. Sounds from the streets could be heard quite well all the way to the 4th floor through the ventilation ducts.
Breakfast was amazing! A huge plus from several vegetarian/vegan options, both for breakfast and dinner

There was no telephone in the room so if you need just a simple question you need to prepare yourself and go to the reception/lobby. The rooms were really small.

Pictures are better than reality, facillities are elementary, with a feeling of cheap things all around, reception personnel very sour. It has a backpackers facility vibe. Breakfast is some fixed option you can choose from, not very good. Also quite far from main point if interest. Room is actual a floor for beds with no space for luggages. Price is high for what they offer, we also stayed in Kyoto at another hotel, brand new,, more central, for the same money, and this doesn't even compare with that one.
