Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United KingdomAmazing view and free early evening drinks on the terrace with a stunning onsen. Free tea, soft drinks and ice cream in the lobby. Great location for the market and Gion.Lots of food and drink options nearby. Rooms are nice, but small as normal in Japan.

United StatesRooms are super small, but we knew this going into it. Other members of our party upgraded to a suite with private onsen and the rooms were WAY more spacious, plus had unlimited drinks at the rooftop bar during happy hour.
Beautiful, centrally located hotel with amazing amenities. We paid an arm and a leg for a teeny tiny room here during peak cherry blossom season, but it felt worth it. The location was great, just over the bridge to Gion and an easy walk almost everywhere, including train stations (although not the main Kyoto station.) We lucked out with a room that had a window with a partial river view, though many rooms have a view of a brick wall a few feet away. The rooftop was a great plus: hot spring foot bath, bar, fire pits and couches. We were provided one free drink (beer wine or simple cocktails) per person per night during happy hour. The shared onsen was beautiful. They switch male/female spas daily, so you can experience both, but one definitely has a better view/vibe than the other. Try going right when they reopen after the midday switch/clean for a private or near private onsen experience. Staff were super friendly, and the lobby had coffee and tea + popsicles and ice cream sandwiches 24/7.

AustraliaHad 2 hot spring bath, the one I used was not roofless. It was a balcony facing the street and traffic, covered by bamboo designs to block the bad view. Not too bad.
Location is walking distance to many touristic spots. The service in the lobby was very good (coffee, ice creams, tee, …)

AustraliaNothing really, wish we could stay longer
Luxury feel and set up without a hefty price. Hotel was cleverly laid out and designed. Facilities were very clean and comfortable, showers were strong, onsens and afternoon drinks by the rooftop just made the whole experience exceptional and by far the best value we've had in Japan. Location was at the centre of Kyoto's heart.

United StatesSmall rooms
We couldn’t have chosen a better location. It’s a 2 minute walk from the train station and walking distance to the Gion district. There were so many great shops and restaurants within minutes. The hotel itself is beautiful. The staff is so nice and helpful. Everything is very clean and the onsens were amazing. We loved sitting on the terrace before dinner taking in the beautiful view with our feet soaking in a foot onsen. The only downside was the rooms are very small. But we weren’t in our room very much so it wasn’t a problem. I would definitely stay here again.

GermanyRoom was bit small for me, but I was out almost all the time so it did not really matter.
Great location where you can reach to lots of valuable place in Kyoto. Close to Kamo river which makes great feeling in Kyoto if you walk by. Close to all the shopping area and Gion area for nice supper. This hotel has out side big bath area which you can over see the city of Kyoto! Very nice for traveller!

United StatesMy only complaint is that you can smell the smoking room while walking past to do laundry next door. Smoking room needs better ventilation.
Absolutely loved this hotel! So many amenities, including men and women’s baths and free drinks on the rooftop while you soak your feet. Definitely staying here again next time we visit Kyoto. Fantastic location in Gion—walking distance to metro and a lot of the restaraunts & cafes we wanted to try, staff is so kind and English-friendly, and free coffee + tea + popsicles at the 9th floor reception every day. We booked a superior double room (204 ft) with a queen bed—plenty of space for our two checked bags, one rolly carry-on, and two backpacks. A good number of outlets and the bathroom had sufficient counter space and good water pressure. Easy to leave bags before check-in and after checkout with 1F desk. Laundry in building was convenient to use and much appreciated.

United StatesLaundry facilities: The experience could have been better—there was some dust, and the dryer wasn’t functioning well. Free drink coupons: Limited to specific hours that didn’t align with our availability, making it hard to use them. Rooftop terrace: Open bar hours required purchasing drinks to access the terrace, which was disappointing. Room size: The rooms were a bit small, making it challenging to manage larger luggage.
Stylish ambiance that creates a welcoming and modern vibe. Onsen experience was relaxing and enhanced by the provided yukatas. Rooftop terrace with a stunning view—perfect for unwinding. Friendly, English-speaking staff who made everything easy and enjoyable. Thoughtful amenities like free drinks, ice cream, and laundry facilities. Rooms were comfortable with a mostly quiet atmosphere for restful nights.

CanadaThe breakfast is the same each day, which can become a bit monotonous if staying for multiple nights. That said, it was delicious and filling, and we still enjoyed it very much.
The hotel is centrally located and easily accessible by transit with many restaurants located nearby. The room and amenities exceeded expectations, but it was the kind and contentious staff that really made this an exceptional experience. One of the most enjoyable and relaxing hotel stays in recent memory. Highly recommended!
