Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.

Amenities such as rooftop terrace and onsite Onsen makes this hotel special. The staff is super helpful and professional. Location in Karasuma is central to everything. Rooms are on the small side but everything else makes up for it.

CanadaWe found the bed to be too firm and unfortunately the thermostat doesn't go below 20 degrees, so we found it quite hot in the room and had to ask for additional sheets to use as light blankets.
The hotel is in a great location, so close to the markets, shopping and Gion. The onsens here are beautiful and have actual mineral water unlike other hotels. The terrance and free welcome drinks were great as well.

United KingdomRules about taking your own food and drink to the rooftop were a bit confusing and could be better explained. Otherwise everything was excellent.
Loved this hotel and did not want to leave! The onsen and the early-evening rooftop drinks were the real highlights but the location and room are also excellent.

United Stateswhile i understand the rule for the welcome drink to be 4 p.m to 6.30 p.m, i suggest that when people do stay at the hotel they be able to use it whenever the bar are open. People are staying to visit and do the most while coming back late after enjoying kyoto, either have a welcome drink without time limitation or no welcome drink at all.
We liked everything. Good location, not too crowded also not too far from the center of kyoto. Easy access to anywhere from bus to subway, nice onsen, good amenities and room is clean. We ordered a kaiseki for one day during our 5 nights stay ( not the lunch box ), it was really good. One last thing, dont skip the rooftop. ( you will thank me later )

CanadaPrime location, short walk to the main Gion area, tons of restaurants around. Walkable to many sites. Very clean, lovely room (not as small as I thought it would be), wonderful facilities (especially the Onsen). Breakfast bento box was well presented and yummy. Staff bent over backwards and was very helpful. Their English was good enough to be able to communicate what we needed.

Hong KongThe room, while on the smaller side, is well-designed, blending Japanese-style decor with contemporary furnishings. Although small and compact, the excellent location and top-notch services more than make up for the room size, and it didn't detract from my overall experience.
My stay at Sora Niwa Terrace Kyoto was a delightful experience that truly captured the essence of this historic city. The hotel's location is undoubtedly one of its strongest assets. Nestled in the heart of Kyoto, it offers easy access to the city center and is surrounded by fantastic dining options, including a superb wagyu restaurant just downstairs. For those looking to explore Kyoto's nightlife, there are several bars within walking distance. One of the highlights of my stay was the hotel's rooftop bar, exclusively for guests. The panoramic views are breathtaking, offering a stunning vista of Kiyomizu-dera Temple. The unique foot bath experience at the bar adds an extra layer of relaxation – sipping on a cocktail while soaking your feet is an indulgence not to be missed. The breakfast bento boxes served at the hotel deserve special mention. They're thoughtfully prepared and offer a wonderful taste of Japanese cuisine, especially appreciated by international visitors like myself. It's a perfect way to start your day of exploration in Kyoto. Another standout feature is the hotel's own hot spring. The combination of traditional Japanese aesthetics with modern amenities in the bathing area creates a serene and rejuvenating atmosphere.

FranceI wish I was informed on Booking.com that (on top of the accommodation tax which we knew about), there is a tax for the onsen water, which you have to pay even if you do not use the onsen. It would be better to add it in the important information section.
The hotel was very well located and with a luxurious design. The room was beautiful, very large and with all amenities. We loved the rooftop bar with the complimentary drinks as well as the complimentary coffee and ice cream available in the lobby. The staff was very helpful to help us send our luggage to our next hotel.

RussiaIt is extremely hard to find anything bad in this hotel. If this is the goal maybe the room sizes (but from Japan perspective they are quite spacious)
One of the most friendly staff I have ever seen. Extremely caring, helpful and paying attention to every detail, remembering the needs of every guest. Always eager and ready to help, reacting immediately once any request is submitted. And also keeping the ideal balance between keeping an eye of care on you and respecting your privacy. Reception floor is also equiped with great coffee machine that prepares top-notch cacao, matcha latte and iced drinks. Always handy to have that option in your hotel. So far, one of the best hotels I have ever stayed so far!

NetherlandsNothing much to say. Maybe a western option for breakfast would have been nice. And a bigger area to have breakfast. We would have also liked to have a restaurant at the rooftop or at least access to the rooftop during the day. Otherwise we really appreciated our stay!
The onsen (hot bath) experience was probably our favourite part of our stay, with the amazing view on the city (& the great soaps). The rooftop and free drink each night of your stay is a great perk. The room was a bit small but very comfortable. The staff was kind and helped us with recommendations and our luggage. You are located in the modern heart of Kyoto, within walking distance of Nishiki market and Gion. Access to coffee, tea, snacks at the lobby. Very nice. We really liked the Yukata (traditional gown) and wooden slippers!

Good location and the hotel amenities are excellent. Guests are well taken care of. There are many things to look out for such as availability of public baths with nice views of Gion, welcome drink on rooftop bar overlooking Gion, a refreshment corner for guests in the lobby at any time with ice cream and cream puffs. In room amenities are complete with yukata and pajamas.

United KingdomRoom size, you can't get away from it. It's really quite small. When you have to store your luggage under your bed just to get around the room you know it's small. That's about the only downside honestly. The bed size was good on the larger bed and the room was great, just very compact.
Everything baring the room size. Location, value, staff etc. the terrace was a real highlight.

United StatesStaff not too helpful during typhoon causing travel issues. Bullet trains were cancelled but staff indicated running as usual. When I tried to extend my stay by a day, they wanted to charge me for one day more than I paid for the first 3 days combined.
Good size room, great amenities: bathroom, bed, couch. Location very convenient to bus stops and train stations less than 10 min walk. Walkable to Nishiki market, Sanjo Meiji, Pontocho, Gion. 24 hr coffee, tea and ice cream. Foot soak with happy hour nice after long day of walking.
