Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

The facilities are perfect, the staff as well as what the hotel offers is just perfection! It’s not my first time staying at the hotel, and hopefully not the last.

ThailandEverything here was beyond our expectation! Firstly, the location was so good; when we exhausted from walking around Teramachi/ Kawaramachi area, we just walked back to have some rest at the hotel before the 2nd or 3rd round each day. Secondly, the staff; I mean every staff, was very professional, helpful, and genuinely friendly. Thirdly, the facilities, especially the public baths (Niwa no Yu & Shijo Kawaramachi no Yu) were truely heaven like what they claimed for, also, their rooftop was perfect for both having breakfast or chill out with drinks. Fourth, F&B, their breakfast bento was nice and plenty of welcome drink (depends on number of your stays) We're looking forward for our next year trip in which if we come to Kyoto again, defenitely gonna stay here :)

United StatesThe hotel was really nice and felt private and relaxing. The room we stayed in was small but very nice and clean, and the shower in the bathroom was great. The foot bath and bar on the roof were incredible and had great views of the city!

United Arab EmiratesNothing, great stay.
Perfectly placed within a few minutes walking distance to Kyoto-Kawaramachi Station, making it an easy commute from Osaka ! Every interaction with the hotel staff and facilities were seamless (the free coffee/matcha latte/soda/ice-cream was a very, very welcome surprise, especially after a long day exploring Kyoto!) The public baths were fantastic, clean and hygienic - the views/setting changes between the men and women everyday so that both baths can be experienced. They even helped us with our luggage and sending it across to Tokyo with minimum fuss, at our convenience. Would definitely stay here again on my next visit!

United StatesI wish they had more washing machines and a machine to get change :/ I wish they had a guide on how to put on the yukata too. I googled it though
The property is beautiful. The hotel has a modern and traditional feel. They do it well! I love that you could leave luggage before check-in and after you check-out. The terrace is beautiful! And the food soak is amazing. I didn’t realize where to grab towels when I first used it lol. I do wonder how it’s cleaned though with everyone’s feet in it. They give you a free drink ticket and there is free coffee and ice cream in the reception lobby. The room was small but perfect for me as a solo traveler. The location is great. Next to Gion and not too far of a ride to other sites. Nishiki Market is sooo close! They provide you with pajamas and a yukata. It was great to wear and experience. I will definitely stay here again when I come back. This was a great stay for my first visit

Indianothing!
From the moment I arrived at Sowa Niwa Terrace, the experience was nothing short of exceptional. Nestled in a Kawaramachi that offers breathtaking views, the establishment has set a high bar for what a tranquil retreat should feel like. The standout feature for me was undoubtedly the terrace spring foot bath - a rejuvenating experience paired perfectly with the happy hour service that caters to every guest's need for relaxation. Complimentary offerings such as coffee, tea, and ice cream add a delightful touch to the day's activities, allowing for moments of joy that are both simple and elegant. The yukata robe provided is of superior quality, enhancing the cultural experience and ensuring comfort during the stay. The onsen deserves a special mention for its exceptional standards. It's clear that meticulous attention to detail has gone into maintaining the purity and sanctity of this traditional Japanese bath, providing an immersive and therapeutic experience. Overall, Sowa Niwa Terrace isn't just a stay - it’s a holistic experience that impressively exceeds expectations, providing a perfect blend of luxury, culture, and comfort. It’s a model for what an excellent hospitality experience should be.

GermanyNothing. This is one of these hotels you will never forget.
Sora Niwa Terrace Kyoto is one hotel you HAVE to choose for your next trip to Japan. The staff is simply amazing you can leave your luggage on arrival at the entrance on the ground floor and everything else will be organized by the amazing staff. At check in the luggage will be already in your room and they even provide two Yukatas for you. Both onsens are beautiful and relaxing and they change everyday so that women and men can appreciate both types. After the hot both enjoy free drinks or icecream in the Lobby area. The rooftop/bar itself is reason enough to book a room, the view is amazing and they even have a footbath underneath. Great little details and a beautiful experience. We really enjoyed our stay and will come back for sure!

AustraliaDouble bed was against a wall, and although we moved it very slight so the second person could get out the cleaning staff kept moving it back. This is not an issue but just a detail to be aware of.
The foot spa on the rooftop bar was fabulous. They had lots of lovey extra details at this hotel. It was very central to everything we wanted to do.

FinlandWe arrived to the hotel at 13.45 in the afternoon and check-in was at 15. Even if our room was ready and they bought our luggage there, we couldn’t get it unless paying extra. This was ridiculous and very disappointing for such a quality hotel. The places where you could eat your breakfast box were limited to 5 places. At least our room was so small that it was not convenient to eat in the room.
Excellent terrace at the roof top, great place to rest after walking whole day, nice view over the city. The location was great, walking distance to many places but also close to busses and local train. Room was small, but nicely decorated. Laundry machines downstairs, which was great.
