Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.

By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United StatesThe fact we had to leave.
Everything. This hotel is literal perfection. I have zero complaints and will be back! Free drinks, the foot bath on the terrace, the view, etc. 😍 THE VIEW FROM THE PUBLIC BATH. Stay here at least two nights so you can experience both baths. They change daily.

United StatesWe were spoiled at a previous hotel, where the spa remained open most of the night, so for those jet-lagged, it was a tonic. Longer spa hours would have been great. Not much English spoken throughout the country, so be prepared for that and no room service, not much in terms of food on property but plenty of other options nearby.
Beautiful hotel with Japanese style / designed rooms. Very efficient and comfortable. Wonderful rooftop view and foot spa to boot. Heavenly. Excellent location!!!

Hong KongNo. Everything is perfect.
The staff is very nice and helpful. The explanation during check-in is very detail. The view is fantastic and the facilities are really great. The open area hot spring is really special. They provide drinks in the afternoon on the roof top and it’s free. You can place your foot into the hot spring with nice view and drinks!

United StatesWe loved every aspect of our stay at Sora Niwa. The open air onsen exceeded all our expectations and had a luxurious, spa-like feeling. The rooms while small, were laid out well and immaculate. staff were friendly, the kids enjoyed free ice cream in the lobby, and the hotel was within easy walking distance of shops and restaurants in the heart of Kyoto.

United KingdomBreakfast was a traditional bento box. Children were not keen on it.
Wonderful facilities. We absolutely enjoyed complementary drinks on the rooftop overlooking night city, and soaking our feet in the hot stream after a day of walking around magnificent temples. Evening onsens added up to the relaxation mood. Location couldn't be better, very central. Several sightseeing points are around 2km walking distance, easy access to the metro lines and train station. Main shopping and restaurant strips are on the doorstep. Good Nature food store with a nice bar on the opposite side of the road.

United Stateshonestly, i have no complaints. the one thing i will say is it would be nice if onsen was open all day (closes from 10am-3pm). it didnt bother us since we were out, but perhaps if someone wants to stay and enjoy it during the day they wont be able to.
this was the best hotel we stayed in during our trip to japan. it is perfect. super clean, great location, quiet in the room even though its in the center of kyoto, the onsen is SUPERB. loved having the open air and indoor bath. the footbath on the roof with view is lovely, especially with a hot welcome drink. great coffee and tea (nice tea bags!!) available free all day, as well as popsicles and ice cream. the room is small as expected, even has a humidifier. bed is comfortable, tv has netflix. so many restaurants nearby and near all kinds of public transport, or can walk wherever! this is the place to stay in kyoto!

United StatesWe loved it, but please read my comments to make sure this is the hotel for you.
The staff is amazing and the location is very convenient. The location is walking distance to Nishiki market, Gion, subway station, river, restaurants and shopping. We loved this Japanese onsen hotel, but please note if you're going to stay here that it will require an openness to the Japanese culture. The rooms are small compared to ones in the US but very well designed (luggage is stored under the bed, so big luggage may not fit). Only two people will fit per room and rooms are not big enough for people traveling with kids. You need to take off your shoes before entering your room (there is an area to leave your shoes and change to slippers). The hotel provides yukatas (robes) to wear in the property and everyone wears them. The onsen is used completely undressed and there is a shower area where you wash off first. There are two onsens (male and female switch from one day to the next) and one has an incredible views of Gion and the river. The rooftop deck with a foot bath also has amazing views. The lobby has hot drinks and also fruit popsicles that were a refreshing treat after the onsen. The hotel was new and it was incredibly clean. The breakfast is beautifully presented in boxes, but it is all Japanese cuisine (our boxes contained fish, rice, sea snail, root vegetables, etc.). There were laundry facilities in the basement (which we used). We loved our stay and my adult daughters said staying at this hotel was one of their favorite memories of Japan.
