Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

ThailandGreat location. Delicious and very big portion of meal. We paid extra for snow crab and it was all worth it. The hotel itself is nicely decorated in a traditional way. We enjoyed onsen hopping since the hotel is close to everything.

ThailandThe public bath is overcrowd in the evening, (not part of this hotel, but in the city) otherwise all good.
Staff services is the best, first time to see non-Japanese with great English. Service procedure is detailed follows like most of Japanese Inn. The room is cozy with garden balcony, food was great. Unfortunately it was raining, but in-house private onsen is very good. They also provide rental umbrella that you can return it at tourist center next to train station. Bonus: Their Yukata is beautiful. The stay is including onsen pass already.

Beautiful, very zen hotel, with 5-star staff, service and food. All the traditional ryokan elements with a touch of class, modernity and refinement. Super well located for the 7 onsen - close to Goshono-yu, our favourite! Food was stellar! Thank you to all the staff who made us feel like home.

CanadaHad to pay extra to get our breakfast vegetarian, but it was pretty meh. Rice, soup, 2 slices of fruit +1(!) grape? Service at breakfast leaves much to be desired. Glad we didn't get dinner over there.
Good location, right across the road of the 2 public onsens. Tattoo friendly.

United StatesI've been to many Onsens through out Japan. This was the first time that I ate so much meat at both breakfast and dinner. Since Kinoseki is famous for crab during the fall and winter seasons, I was excepting to have crab for dinner. We did notice other customers in the dinning room eating crab set meal. I asked our waitress and was told that since I booked through Booking.com which only provides one option for Kaiseki dinner. The hotel actually offers three dinner options.
We liked the friendly and tentative staff; ones at the front desk, dinning room, and especially the one who helped each of us to put on kimonos.

SpainI would have liked to find more amenities in the room, same as in the other hotel in Japan. As well it would have been great to have a shower in the room.
Beautiful stay! The staff very helpful. They give you a free pass for all the public onsen and you can also use their private Onsen that also works as your shower. No shower in the room. The food was delicious. We had also a very nice tea ceremony.

Had an amazing experience at Kobayashiya. Really can't overstate it, it is on the expensive side but was one of the highlights of our trip. The location is perfect, the setting is adhering to Japanese standards of aesthetics, sober and traditional. The dinner was an experience worth the whole price of the night in and out itself. I am considering coming back to Kinosaki just to stay at this ryokan again. Thanks a lot for the experience!

SwitzerlandLocated right beside the river in the center of Kinosaki Onsen, this beautiful hotel combines the traditional style of Japanese ryokans with modern design elements, creating a unique atmosphere. Our room was spacious, well equipped and made us feel welcome immediately. While the famous public onsens of Kinosaki are just around the corner due to the central location of Kobayashiya, the three private onsen rooms inside the ryokan present an ideal opportunity to start the day in a relaxing fashion or simply enjoy some privacy in between. The Kaiseki (dinner menu) and breakfast were included in our stay and we would highly recommend adding the option. The dishes were carefully prepared with fresh, local ingredients (especially the fish and seafood) and present the perfect opportunity to experience and savor traditional, Japanese cuisine. It was definitely a highlight of our trip to Japan. We would especially like to highlight the service provided during our stay. From the moment you arrive, everything is being taken care of, from providing the complimentary Yukatas and assisting you in dressing appropriately, taking the time to introduce and explain to you the dinner and breakfast menus, explaining everything about Kinosaki and its onsen culture or simply taking care of your room. You can simply relax and enjoy yourself.

SingaporeWe have to use staircase only, going up and down, and use the common bath area for bathing - each of the 3 Baths comes equipped with the Japanese onsen though, so that's something to look forward to).
Since this is our first time staying in a Ryokan, we're glad to be entreated to a tour of the place ( read: common private baths within the Ryokan as there is no bath area in each room), choosing the yukata and in general easing into the culture of living in a Japanese inn. We enjoyed the fresh quality of the food served at each meal ( breakfast and kaiseki dinner), and really liked the location of Kobayashiya which faces the Otani River. It's a place of furnished with modern amenities and carrying a rustic charm that we hope to return to again someday. The staff who attended to us made sure to put our luggage in the room neatly, and were patient to lead us to the restaurant at each meal.
