Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty

To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.

When we first arrived we were given a room with opaque windows, impossible to see through that could not be opened. I requested a change of room, explaining that I could not stay in such a small room without either being able to open the window or see out of it. At first denied, eventually moved to another room after showing that rooms on the website show clear windows and that is what I had booked. Rooms pretty small - a bit of a squeeze for two people and luggage.
Excellent location - close to restaurants, shops and transport.

There is no proper locker room for luggage. They just keep them at the entrance and do not check who is leaving/picking the luggage up. No security whatsoever.

Probably something cultural, but it was strange that they left a note for us saying they had not done the bed because there were personal belongings (a pijama) over the bed and their policy is not to touch anything. This has never happened to me anywhere else in the world.
Great location just beside a main street and close to underground and buses, combini next to the hotel. Front desk people were helpful. They advised us on how to send the suitcase to our next location. Room was nice, not big, but Japan usual. Well designed for comfort. Bed was comfortable.

The room was a bit small but I understand that is common in Kyoto.
The location is great and nearer entry is through Karasuma station. There are useful facilities like Microwave in common areas

The first room it was really small even the bed it was. A single bed and not that clean.
The basic room was really small and wasnt the cleanest, we requested an upgraded to a bigger room in another hotel and we paid an upgrade fre and it was much better. The staff helped us with this change

Next to the subway line so easily accessible. Cheap laundry facilities and noiseproof rooms. Don't forget to go to the amazing pancake restaurant just two doors away.

Good location in shopping district. High end stores and Shinkyogoku shopping district, Kyoto Owl Forest and other animal cafes. Some interesting little restaurants in surrounding streets. Room was reasonable size. Laundry, ice and vending machine provided on the 2nd floor. Luggage storage available.

Provided washing machine but there's no coin exchange available in reception. What's the point of providing washing machine but offer no help in changing coins.

Room was really small. We did a washing, we had to use the dryer 3 times and the clothes were still not dry. Could offer more amenities like tea, shower cap, facial wash etc

That we weren’t aware of the 200yen tax which we were charged on Arival

Toilet seat wasn’t heated.
Excellent location, two minutes away from Nishiki market, plenty of lovely places for a late night meal around us. Staff was very friendly.

No issues at all.
The location was excellent. A short walk to the main street, Nishiki Markets, shopping malls, Ninja Museum. So many 7/11 and family marts in the area. The ramen place next door was awsome 😋 There was a wonderful selection of restaurants within minutes of the hotel. The buses and train station were a 5min walk. The bed was comfy and you could walk down both sides. The staff were so helpful, polite, and spoke English. I would stay here again.

The roomware equipped in the room was a little bit tight for me.
