Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.

The coffee machine did not offer any kind of milk, so you could only have expresso or American coffee.
The facilities where great, everything was new and comfortable. The hotel had good connections with train and bus.

Beds were hard for my taste. The view out of the North side of the hotel feels like the top floor of a Philippines Prison.

Good location. Triple sharing room was spacious. It was a comfortable stay. Hotel is near to stations of 2 different lines so connectivity to many tourist spots was convenient

Very convenient location between the station and the centre of Kyoto. Tiny rooms but comfortable enough. Staff extremely kind and willling to help.

2 out of 3 dryers were broken, makes laundering process quite difficult, its a minor issue though.
Clean, quiet, great helpful staff speaking good English, perfectly located close to city center and 45min Hankyu Line to Osaka too.

Some better English to be spoken by some of the staff. But we managed to communicate :-)
The lounge and dining place is really nice and useful to have breakfast or just a snack. We had a great week at the hotel, the location is great to visit Kyoto without being in the tourist places but in a more authentic area. Staff was lovely! We do recommend the place.

It would be nice to have free coffee rather than paying for it.
It's cheap and cheerful! You get what it says on the in. Good location about 20minute walk to gion district but you can also get the tube 3 minutes from the hotel down to Gion, the tram to get to the Bamboo Forest is also 3 minutes walk.

It could have been better had I known you have a branch near Central Kyoto. On my first day, I had to walk 3 hours as I was hesitant to ride a bus and it was already past 6 in the afternoon. I thought it was only a few minutes walk from Central Kyoto but I arrived very late at the hotel around 9 pm and exhausted from walking . On the lighter side, I appreciated that there are a lot of convenience stores in the area. It is pretty safe to walk also even if it is late at night and the people are friendly and very helpful.
Stayed for 4 days and 3 nights as a solo traveler. everything about my room at 517 is perfect !!!! From cleanliness to toiletries to the warm toilet seat to the pajamas, and refill of water bottles is like I was staying in a 5-star hotel service and facilities wise. also, the pantry area ( eating area) is very comfortable. I would definitely recommend it to family and friends. Looking forward to staying at the same hotel when I get back for another visit!!! More than 10 stars rating !!!!

The small room might be small for two person plus luggages.
There is a water dispenser at level 1 for refill. 25min walking distance to Nishiki market and more toward Gion (there's bus stop and station nearby).
