Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

The traditional style property, the amazing helpful staff, who take their time to explain the traditions and make you comfortable, and tends to any questions or needs! Location super convenient, and they allowed us to the room early, so it worked perfectly for our short trip to Kyoto!

United StatesFor a Westerner, this felt like a true Japanese stay. The staff were exceptionally kind, polite, and accommodating. They even remember which shoes are yours and put them out for you when you're getting ready to leave. The entire facility is done in a classic Japanese style and feels authentic from the moment you check in until you leave.

This isn’t just a hotel - it was an experience. Rooms were spacious, toilets were clean and rooms were Well equipped with traditional touches. Highly recommend the Kaiseki breakfast or dinner - best rice I’ve ever had in my life. A truly wonderful experience that I will gladly pay for again and again.

United StatesWe only stayed 2 days. We wished we stayed longer. Next time we come to Kyoto, we will!
My wife and I knew very little about staying at a ryokan. The only thing we knew is that we wanted to stay at one since we were visiting Japan for our first time and wanted an authentic Japanese experience. There were many ryokans advertised and to choose from on booking.com. We read many reviews on several and ended up choosing Ohanabo because it had great reviews. Wow! What an experience my wife and I had there!! When we arrived, the owner/host of the ryokan, named Ayako, greeted us. She introduced herself, and it was during this conversation that we realized how upbeat, radiant, positive and engaging her personality was. She was so easy to talk to. It was like chatting with an old friend who you haven't seen in a long time and you picked up where you last left off. It was hard not to fall in love with Ayako's personality. The facilities at Ohanabo were spick-and-span. Our room was always kept clean by the staff. We had robes in our room that we changed into right before using the premises' onsen. They gave us tea, coffee and waffers as snacks. Other nice little touches were provided as well such as an origami rabbit placed on our coffee table in typical Japanese fashion. While Ayako was the star of the show at Ohanabo, her staff was just as great. We never really had to ask for anything. Everything was there, provided for us, things cleaned and all possible requests anticipated in advance. The operations at Ohanabo were run like clockwork because how good the staff was and really cared that the guests had a superb experience. They were not only just in the background. They engaged us too which we greatly appreciated. Finally, the food at Ohanabo was top-notch. We enjoyed our Japanese-style breakfasts they served us. Everything was fresh and sourced locally. The miso soup, the salmon, the tofu, the salads and other freshly cut vegetables were fantastic and delicious.

Exceptional ryokan experience in Kyoto center. Our host was a lovely energetic lady who put extra efforts to make us feel at home and assist with useful sightseeing and practical advices. The traditional room was great, fully equipped, big and comfortable, with everything you need and more. The little onsen was cute an spotless clean. Traditional breakfast was the best breakfast we had in our stay in Japan so far. Dont miss this place if you are looking for a teaditional Japaneese stay.

United KingdomNothing - it was brilliant. We wish we could have stayed longer.
We loved our stay at Ohanabo Ryokan - from the moment we walked in the door we felt welcomed. The staff greeted us with towels and cold water as we were rather hot & sweaty from carrying our bags! They were wonderful. We didn’t expect to be able to check in as we’d arrived much earlier than the official check-in time but they sorted our room out for us. It was delightful. Very comfortable. We’d been staying in hostels so this ryokan was a real treat!!! We loved being able to wear the provided kimono’s - very nice to relax in. We had also ordered breakfast which was absolutely amazing. So special.

United StatesIt's hard to think of anything that could be improved - it was very hot when we stayed and, as expected, the AC struggled, but it did cool the room down and a fan was provided as well so it was never too hot!
The staff was so inviting and made us feel very welcome. We got dinner and I would highly recommend it, the food was very good and well worth the price. Breakfast time could be chosen so we were able to get an early start one day and sleep in a little the next. The bath was clean and very hot and relaxing. It was a short walk from Kyoto station and was easy to get to and from for all our sightseeing and travel. The room was comfortable and clean, and quite big. The flowers were even changed daily!
