Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence

To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.

Nice hotel in the center of Gion Area. Lots of space, but without breakfast options. Great option if you want to stay central and have space!

Nothing I did not like
The property was absolutely stunning! Most comfortable spacious rooms I have stayed in! Excellent location to everything! Very close to all the train stations and a few mins walk to the Marayama park. The staff were beyond helpful and professional. Only thing I regret is not staying longer! When I come back to Kyoto I will 100% book again here!

There was no place to store clothes in the room. Another washing machine would be helpful. No drinking water in the room a bigger jug in the room would have been helpful.
The location and facilities. Staff were helpful and polite. The room is a good size and quiet for the location and walking distance to trains, underground etc...

Coin laundry was often being used but I did get to use it in the end
Great location in Gion. Our room overlooked the river! Rooms were large and comfortable, great to be so close to the sights in Gion or a walk over the bridge to more shopping districts / markets

Very good location in a quiet street near the river. The town/ market ect just across the bridge and the Gion district very close. Very big room at a good price.

my second time staying here and it was excellent again! the location is wonderful, and the room itself is comfortable and spacious. will definitely be back in the future. and i didn’t manage to get her name but the receptionist i briefly spoke with upon checking in was very lovely!

It is worth mentioning that staffs here are so friendly. Their genuine smile made me feel warm-hearted. The twin room are relatively spacious than most of other hotels at this price in Japan, so it is a great deal. It is also located in nice place, where two nearby subway stations are within walking distance and you can easily get to commercial street and food street.

There wasn’t anything that we didn’t like. However, the non-Japanese staff was curt when I had asked about a new set of towels and the trash to be picked up, which wasn’t done in the 4-5 hours that we were gone, after I had requested. It seems like there’s only one housekeeping staff. The other staff were very courteous and nice.
The location was central and close to metro and restaurants. The room was also great.

We had no natural light. Only some rooms have a window that give natural light. I would recommend asking for those rooms and pay a bit extra. Our room had a window but it was so close to next building, it felt like we had no external light. Made it a bit gloomy. Drier didn’t dry the clothes. Washer drier machines are not effective.
Location. Boutique feel. Clean. Comfortable. Spacious. Beautiful bathroom with bath. Very cute and cosy.

Would be more convenient to have more hooks for clothes and towels.
Room and toilet were spacious, making our stay very comfortable. Staffs were friendly and helpful. Location is perfect, very close train stations, food and shopping places. Complementary toiletries were complete which was much appreciated.

I felt that the accommodation was a little overpriced.
The hotel was in a great location, close to transport, attractions, and restaurants. The little extras, such as the bath salts, were lovely. The room was immaculate.
