I enjoyed my stay at ryokan. It was a nice and quiet spot and it isn’t too far from central Tokyo.

As described the building is very old so depending on who else is staying will depend on how much noise there is.

Exactly as described and shown in photos. The room and all of the shared areas were always clean. The host was amazing and showed us true hospitality! This man is a well of knowledge and can help you with quite literally anything you need to know. We were given so many awesome recommendations everyday for different areas we wanted to go. We were also blessed everytime we left the house and welcomed every time we returned. Can highly recommend this stay!

The ryokan owner is very friendly, even helping you picking out what you can do in specific areas of Tokyo, where to eat and more. The ryokan itself was very comfy, the room had a 3 layered futon and soft blanket. Also very affordable, even for a uni student like me

-Due to the authentic ryokan experience, the unfortunate drawback is that the flooring and stairs creak a bit loudly upon stepping on them, which can be heard from most rooms. As such, I'd recommend to be mindful of your steps when you are walking, especially early in the morning or late at night, and you should bring earplugs if you really can't stand noise when sleeping -Not really a huge issue, but Minamisenju is mostly a residential area with hotels and so forth. As such, there is nearly no hot spots for tourism or dining.

-Most helpful and attentive host I ever had. Even as someone who went to Tokyo multiple times, I was surprised by the sheer number of suggestions and secret spots Mr Tatsuo could recommend in most areas in Tokyo -Extremely comfortable futon (3 layers, no less!). I can't overstate that it was pretty much as comfortable as my mattress bed at home which really surprised me. -Facilities were very clean and perfectly operational, with laundry, towels, microwave also at your disposal -Close to the metro and JR station -There are 2 supermarkets and few conbini nearby in case you need to buy food and other stuff -The neighborhood is pretty quiet

It's smoking, but I don't believe it was the ryokan's fault. Our room was facing the front wall, and Japan has a massive smoking culture, so while I liked to avoid the smell, it makes it really hard to. I personally didn't close the windows because my brother who was sharing the room with me seemed to prefer the windows open (and he smokes).

Everyone there is very welcoming. Whether you've experienced Japan or exploring for the first time, Tatsuo-san will always have stops ready for new places to explore.

If Japanese hospitality was a person, that would be Tatsuo-san. As the owner of a 90-year old ryokan, you can expect a traditional yet welcoming stay at this place from him. We arrived in August (peak summer period), but the rooms were super comfortable with air conditioning, traditional tatami mats and futons. Only watch out for the thin walls and creaky floorboards, as one would expect of an old building. There are 3 bathrooms to share between guests, but we didnt find it an issue during our stay as there are rarely people during our shower times. Location wise may be slightly further away from typical places like Shinjuku and Shibuya, but the Minami-senju line a 10 minute walk away poses no problem for travelling, especially if you want to visit Akihabara alongside a quick transit at Ueno station to other major JR lines. As others have pointed out, Tatsuo-san was the highlight of our trip. Hospitality aside, his knowledge as a local (and capability to speak fluent English) gave us so many recommendations that you wont be able to find elsewhere. We always find the opportunity to speak with him about places to visit and eat, which wasn’t hard at all as he always greeted us whenever we left and came back. If you are expecting a budget-friendly and non-touristy visit to Japan, this is the place for you. Arigatou gozaimasu, Tatsuo-san!!

Nothing, perhaps a slightly bigger common area to eat would have been nice but this was not an issue, just a nice to have. The room was small but this didn't matter since I was outside all the time.

Mr Yamasaki, the Co-Owner took the time and effort to help plan my days out with recommendations on places to visit and eat. This was extremely helpful and made my trip more enjoyable. I had a long stay and was greeted with homemade matcha and Japanese snacks. The flooring is very old wood so it gave a very historic feel to the accomadtion, something you can't get at a hotel. There was a dryer machine which ment I could wash and dry my clothes within a hour. I was able to borrow an umbrella for rainy days. Mr Yamasaki also went out of his way to help me watch the England vs Spain Euro 2024 match live in Japan. I also got a Kiribi send off every time I left the Ryokan. This was a fantastic way to truly experiance Japanese culture.

We had a wonderful experience on our first time visit to Japan. The hospitality and personal service provided by the owners were amazing! They gave us great advice and tourist places to visit each day as we toured different districts within Tokyo. The place is comfortable, practical and within our budget. They offer free laundry, towels and snacks. They even provide umbrellas if it rains! The place is within walking distance to convenience stores and subway stations. We definitely would come back to stay here when we visit Japan again. Thank you to Tatsuo and Yoshiko for your kindness and generosity!!! And also for the memorable gift, which will always remind us of our special trip to Tokyo. 💞😃

I dont know if smoking is allowed, but some guests were smoking inside the room and it made the corridor and common areas have a smoking smell.

I had a fabulous stay, the owner was so nice and made the experience so wonderful. The rooms are clean and are cleaned daily. Toilets/showers are also kept clean. The showers had strong water pressure. WiFi was really fast. Location is good with a 10 min walk to the train station. I enjoyed the Japanese experience of sleeping in Ryokan. The owner gave many recommendations for Tokyo and also where is the best place for souvenirs rather than touristic locations which I wouldn't have discovered without the local knowledge so I am really thankful for that.

The Manager was incredibly helpfull by giving recommendations of things to do or eat around the hole city. He was also very kind and patient. And the whole atmosphere of the place is very nice, feels traditional and authentic.

Will definitely come back if I come to Tokyo again, even if we were not that close Tokyo station we didn't felt the location were bad at all, a tran station was nearby and there were also a lot of things to do around.

    Nothing!

I stayed at Ryokan Nakadaya on the last leg of my Japan trip during spring. After having seen so much of that beautiful country over two busy weeks, I didn’t think Tokyo could get better than what I had already experienced. Little did I know, I would be so lucky to be in Tatsuo-san’s company. I received a warm welcome, and was showed around the property on arrival. I didn’t even have to carry my luggage to the room as Tatsuo-san took care of it. Each morning, he would ask which area of the city I am planning to visit, and would airdrop me the best recommendations – for food, sightseeing, shopping – you name it, including some rare locations like the Hayao Miyazaki clock which I loved! One morning when it was raining heavily, he offered me a fresh mochi along with some matcha, which was one of my favorite snacks in Japan. He would also perform a little ceremony sparking flint stones to bring me good luck on my travels. Starting my day with such cute interactions with Tatsuo-san was one of the most wonderful highlights of my trip. It felt like I made a friend! As far as the property goes – it’s a charming, vintage ryokan. Each corner is speckless – not only were the common areas cleaned every day by hardworking staff, but so were the rooms. The showers and bathrooms were always clean too, despite being shared. There was also a lobby-like area where you could have tea and enjoy some Japanese snacks. The (single) room itself is a good size for someone who is staying there as a traveler, as you would likely be venturing out during the day. I found the Tatami mats and the futon to be perfect for me as I don’t prefer extremely soft hotel beds, but Tatsuo-san did offer to put more mattresses, in case I wanted them. Like in any ryokan, you have to be careful not to damage the mats, but there are enough shelves and furniture to park your luggage and other bags comfortably. The internet was also fast.

None at all. I am just sad that I didn't bring delicacies/souvenirs from my country and share them with Tatsuo-san (the host). So make sure you guys bring one as he is so nice and deserves it!

From the moment we arrived at this traditional Tokyo inn, our experience was nothing short of wonderful, largely thanks to our exceptional host. Fluent in English, he was not only a treasure trove of local knowledge, sharing insights and tips about Tokyo, but also incredibly attentive. He performed a good luck ritual for us upon departure, assisted with our luggage, and even served us tea on our last day, adding a personal touch to our stay. The inn itself is a perfect blend of the old and the new. While it retains its traditional charm, evident in its structure and decor, the facilities are modern and impeccably maintained. The cleanliness of the place was noteworthy. Our room, furnished with comfortable futons and well-preserved tatami carpets, provided a genuine Japanese living experience. In terms of location, the inn is conveniently situated. A supermarket is just a 2-3 minute walk away, while both a 7-Eleven and a Lawson store are within a 5-minute stroll. The Minami Senju station, reachable in about 10 minutes on foot, offers easy access to major districts like Akiba and Ueno. Furthermore, the iconic Asakusa area, home to the Sky Tree and Sensoji Temple, is a leisurely 30-40 minute walk from the inn. This accommodation far surpasses a typical 3-star hotel in Tokyo in terms of both charm and service. It comes highly recommended for anyone looking to immerse themselves in the authentic atmosphere of Tokyo while enjoying modern comforts. A hidden gem indeed!
