Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.

Great service and front desk. The rooms were a bit cramped and tight to be in but that's given the room size that we paid into. The room itself was comfy enough and had a great overlook of the river. The only downside was the business across the street did not make walking to the hotel feel particularly safe as they kept hawking at us. The location itself with respect to all the activities was great so don't let the hawkers deter you from staying here. Would recommend for people wanting to stay near dotonbori.

Excellent location, friendly staff, plenty of amenities. It is also very convenient for transportation to Kyoto station and for catching buses which go all around the city. Loved it!

I didn’t like how there was a big step out of the bathroom. I was sore from hiking and walking everyday that the step up and down wasn’t ideal.
I liked the complimentary tea. The breakfast was good enough, a little strange to me to have salad for breakfast. There were also pastries, coffee, juice, water and tea. The staff was friendly.

The room was very comfortable. Best pillows in all of Japan! Right opposite FamilyMart. Not super close to a subway but close enough. Staff are nice and know lots of English. 15 min walk to Dontobori

Breakfast could have a few more options.
Excellent location, near the busy part yet still very calm. All staff was friendly and professional. Wifi worked flawlessly. Rooms clean and tidy, everything worked correctly.

All was perfect, I would stay there again if my work takes me there.
Highly recommended. Quiet and very clean. 7-11 is just on the corner. The Reception team very courteous and helpful.

It's a bit far from the main place where the bars and restaurants are, but that's not something the hotel can control
This hotel was my favorite place to stay during my trip to Japan. It’s in a fantastic location, conveniently close to some restaurants and transport links. The staff were friendly, and my room was both comfortable and impeccably clean. I would recommend and stay again.

Our best stay in Japan! Stylish minimalistic hotel located in a very nice calm area but not far away from most of Kyoto attractions, on foot or by bus. The breakfast is quite cheap and very simple, but if you add something from seven eleven (1 min walk) it will be rich enough. Cleaning every 2 or 3 days, new towels every day, big and comfortable bed and nice pyjamas. Perfect and very Japanese experience!

We used the laundry machine available and it did not properly wash out stains. Dryer did not dry clothes either.
Very clean room, great shower. Decent location. Friendly staff.

The cleaning schedule of 3 days is a little long.

The hotel is well located, close to some of the main attractions of Kyoto (shopping streets, nishiki market, Gion etc..) Plus we received a small gift when we arrived as the hotel celebrated an anniversary
