Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesWe had two rooms. One had a great view the other was looking at part of the building however it had a open air bath and foot bath. I think this helped make up for the lack of view.
The property was amazing. Great room with open air bath. The food was amazing. They went out of their way to provide a special food service but within the plan!!

United KingdomWe had a really bad experience with the manager and whoever was handling the reservation. I contacted the property before arrival to enquire if the breakfast is Japanese as we had the experience in another hotel and didn’t enjoy it. They confirmed this is the case and wouldn’t allow us to cancel the breakfast and even told us to let them know asap if we are going to have it or not (even though we had to pay for it either way), despite the fact there is no mention that the breakfast is Japanese. They kept telling us to cancel and rebook even though I’d have to pay full price cancellation. When we arrived at the hotel, they told us we have to eat the breakfast at 7.30 am - this is not 5 star service! The real disappointment came at check out time though which is at 10 am (again, hardly a five star service as they don’t offer you later check out option). They called us at 10.10 am while we were finishing packing - we told them we need 10 more minutes to leave. The manager immediately stormed to our room, proceeding to knock, shout and threaten us with charging us for another night (through google translate as her English was poor) if we don’t leave immediately. She wouldn’t leave and kept shouting for another 5 minutes in a very aggressive manner. I am pregnant as we explained to them, and this incident caused considerable stress for no reason whatsoever. We have never experienced such appalling behaviour to guests anywhere. This hotel is not 5 star and I would avoid it if I had to choose again.
The room itself was great with a lot of space and amazing onsen. Some of the staff were helpful even though they didn’t speak much English. The location was very convenient.

AustraliaUnfortunately I cannot recommend going to this hotel as a family & staying in the traditional Japanese room. Luckily we only booked for two nights. The main issue was that the futon mattresses provided are very thin, they stack 2 together. When you lay on them, it’s like laying directly on the floor. Given that this was a very expensive room, around $800 AUD a night I expected much better. When I approached reception with google translate of the issue, I was advised that the room service would provide more mattresses, upon returning in the afternoon, it had not been done and I was told it wasn’t too hard to do now and that changing rooms would be difficult. The sleep situation was akin to camping, I think I get better sleep on my camp mattress to be honest
The location was close to the railway.

United KingdomIt is very pricey. We asked if we needed to book the traditional food in advance. I would say, call and book this in advance as the dinner slots were all booked when we got there. We booked breakfast but had to pay separately. Not included with room. And the food wasn’t served in the room as the photos suggest. It is in the restaurant with normal tables and chairs and not on the floor on ground. Would’ve been nice to be private as the atmosphere was slightly ruined by a screaming baby sat on the other table. Also, if you miss dinner, the options around the area are very limited and the smaller restaurants get booked very quickly. So book in advance.
Location, the massive rooms, private onsen, the views, the traditional breakfast, the complementary drinks, amazing lady at the reception, robes, socks, slippers to wear during stay. The lady was so kind. Went out of her way to find us food when it got late; literally walked with us to find the restaurant and also got us umbrellas when it stared to drizzle a bit.

AustraliaOne of the private onsens had lukewarm water instead of warm, how it was the day earlier. The staff couldn’t fix it for us to enjoy. They only provide a couple of sachets of coffee for the entire stay and then charge if you want more- a bit different from other hotels we have stayed in Japan. Overall, not a bad place to stay at.

IndiaThe overall experience was bad. Rooms were big and decent but the staff did not no any English. They were not helpful and did not offer any services. They were not even able to arrange for a taxi to the station despite us requesting that we have heavy bags. The complimentary services like the baths were dirty and unusable. Would not recommend staying here.

United StatesA few things were run down a little.
It’s not super clear but you get 1 free private outdoor spring per night and hot rock session. That was my favorite thing about property plus spring bath in our room. The breakfast was amazing and the location ideal to walk or take the tram . The coffee shop across the street had some of the best coffee ever.

United StatesDinner was okay with only one dish that was excellent (shabu shabu). At check in, we asked for assistance with food accommodation s and were refused saying we need to ask at least three days ahead of time. Even if so (although I was unaware of that), they could make an effort to try ensure that person didn't go to bed hung y (no takeout/deliveries/restaurant open at night in the area, Shame on them. Our room had a view of a dried out dig/hole. Quite ugly. The "private bath" was a half-bath size Jacuzzi on a balcony on the fourth floor. Nothing of the natural springs magic feeling we expected. Breakfast was a disappointment.
Hotel and room are nicely designed. Comfortable Good location. Welcome happy hour

AustraliaI think they are short-staffed, some equipments where a bit excessive and I think could have gone to better upgrades (ie. The Dyson dryers in the women’s bath < elevator lighting) It didn’t feel very homey to me.
It’s close to Gora Station, and a 10 min walk to a Lawson. I recommend booking the private open-air bath. The food was very traditional and just fair. Also 15 min walk to Hakone Open Air museum.

TaiwanBook a room from booking.com platform A few days later I booking continue two days that the same type on the same platform.(use the same account data) The first time record , they didn’t check that I was staying for two nights. When I Back to the hotel in the afternoon of the first day Staff Just leave all my everything on one box at the lobby. No matter what kind of shoes or clothing put them together in the box. Very bad experience. And the attitude of the staff is very bad Said he sent an email to notify once in the morning Why I will check email during my travel It's all the guests' fault, not theirs Really unworthy this location and this price It’s better to live nearby hotel. This is the first time in history that I have seen such a bad staff. The Senior staff who only speaks Japanese but not English is hiding in the back. only one newbie who can speak English. He keeps coming out and can't decide, so he keeps going back to discuss it. finally, only say sorry. what!!!! My happy travel holiday. my first time coming Hakone Very unworthy and not recommended this hotel

Room with the private bath on the balcony,, the location is great only 2 mins walk from Gora which is so central. There's a cafe right opposite the hotel called Coffee Camp and a Japanese restaurant next door. Enjoyed wearing the Yutawa and slippers to dinner. Relaxing.

It was so very very very noisy at night, not sure the noises whether from above guest house or hotel staff. I could not fall asleep and had to put on earplugs. It kept all night till next morning when i about to leave! Unbelievable suffering experience ever…… did this actually happen?! I would never ever go back to this hotel…….
