This property was just lovely and perfect. It represented the charm of the area, was in a quiet space, and there was a wonderful personal touch from the lovely staff. They helped us with directions to our next location too!

Honestly the only area that could be improved was the WiFi. It was really in and out and eventually I gave up trying to connect.

The ambiance and the staff was amazing. The bathroom was probably the fanciest I’ve ever seen.

The staff make this hotel. Location is fine, rooms are nice, traditional with modern style and touches but the staff make the place. Ignore the star rating, that's down to minimal additional facilities, if you don't want/need a pool etc, you can't go wrong here.

Junei West is a great small hotel with amazing staff

We had a great experience at The Junei. The staff is simply amazing and hotel is tucked in a quiet area with a great coffee shop located around the corner and a pastry shop next door. After the busy crowded site seeing days in Kyoto it was nice to come back to what feels like a very local neighborhood. We walked to dinner a few nights and loved the local crowds (kids loved the chain restaurant Gyoza No Osho). We had a family style room for our family of four and it was perfect! The onsen bath was amazing! If you want a hotel that isn’t loaded with tourists this is a great place to stay.

This small boutique hotel is located in quite area of Kyoto, close to the imperial palace. The staff made our stay very pleasant and were always ready to accommodate any request or questions we had. The rooms where large even by western standards, more than 40 m2 and the bathroom with the tub was wonderful. Also it in a very quiet location so there is no noise of any kind.

Lack of hotel amenities, such as bar/restaurant. No elevator, so difficult with heavy bags - but staff all very helpful getting up the stairs! Location is a bit out of the way, but public transport is easily reached.

Nice room, lovely breakfast, quiet location.

Little difficult to get there by taxi. Kyoto has complicated one way roads. Every time I need to go out, staff printed the out map to take, so that it will not difficult to get back by taxi.

Very clean, comfortable and good sizes of room. Staff were very helpful and kind.

We took taxis to get to places but a bit of a walk to the subway station. Really close to the Imperial Palace and Nijo castle and good location to reach the Golden Temple.

Loved experiencing the Japanese family style room, service was excellent and they assisted with booking restaurants which were amazing. I highly recommend this hotel!

    Loved this little gem!

We loved this hotel! We loved the quiet neighborhood, a little out of the way of the main touristy area, but not too far to walk to catch a quick taxi to those areas. It’s just a short walk to the Imperial Palace gardens, which are free and open to wander through, picnic in, or even jog or bike in (which my husband did). Our room was on the 3rd (top) floor, and, while there is no elevator, the staff brought our bags up and down, and we didn’t mind walking up the stairs at all. The room itself was LOVELY, and I very much enjoyed the bathtub! (Those with mobility issues might have a tricky time with the stairs and floor mats around the table in the room (no western-style table and chairs except at the desk in the room), but if that’s not a concern, it is a truly lovely oasis of calm! The staff all speak excellent English, and were very helpful in finding a great restaurant for dinner (including making reservations for us).
