We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.

By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United KingdomThe only downside was the fact we needed to assemble and make our beds ourselves
The property was very clean and modern, with compact but comfortable rooms. The location was great, just a few minutes walk from a metro station and around 15/20 mins walk from Kyoto station.

CanadaMy confirmation said breakfast was included, but they did not have that on record. I still went to the same place and got a 'better' breakfast for a super reasonable price.
I was so surprised that although the room itself is tiny, they have thought of everything to make that work - a place to store the suitcase, slippers and clothes to wear around the hotel, as you go to the toilet or shower or lounge.... very comfortable toilets and showers....

CanadaBeing multiple stories from the shower facilities can feel like a pain, but you get over it.
For my purposes (quick stay in Kyoto/osaka) it did what needed to do for a very affordable price. All the essentials are there, including breakfast at the adjacent restaurant, and steps from a train station.

United KingdomThe room was a bit of squeeze for four of us but we knew that from the photos and it isn’t a problem for your stay 😊
Great location and facilities! The communal bathroom was great, probably the nicest one I’ve ever used! The location was very good and well connected around Kyoto. Easy check in and check out and able to store your luggage!

GermanyThe rooms are quite small, but that was no problem for us, as we spent the days exploring the city and just went in our room to sleep
The hotel is situated directly at a metro station, so it is easy to get there. The staff is nice and we could store our luggage at the lobby before the check in. The breakfast is at a nearby restaurant (3 options of meal sets to choose from).

SwedenThe storage space almost was non-existent for four people with luggage but we made it work. If you're in Kyoto to explore and not spend time in the room then it's a great place. We also had issue with aircon, but that was also somewhat our fault. It was set to distributing hot air, not cold. So, 4 people in a room with aircon on hot was not ideal. And there was no instruction in English so we didn't know what was wrong. People at reception helped us, but be aware that might be the case if the aircon seems off.
We had a private room for 4 people, with shared bathroom. Bunkbeds that were comfortable. They give you towels and a bag to carry it in to go to the showers which was useful. You also get slippers and can borrow sleepwear, which was great after travelling so long without a washing machine. There are restrooms for men and women on all floors. The showers however are on separate floors. Men’s on the ground and women’s on 2nd. But that was fine. They were clean and had all the amenities you would need. The location is good. Close to the train station and with a metro just outside the door. Kyoto is a spread-out city so getting around takes time depending in on what you want to see, but for the price and how nice this hostel/hotel was it was a good location. It was quiet and calm, check-in and out was easy. They made everything very easy and efficient. I would recommend this place if you're on a budget and need a quiet, clean place to sleep.

United StatesUnfortunately, there was no television in our room but this was not a huge issue for us since we only stayed in our room to sleep. If you leave your card/key in the room, you would have to call the staff to get back in (there are phones in the hallway of each floor that connect you to the hotel staff). No hair conditioner was provided in the shower rooms so you would have to bring that. The rooms are indeed quite small so it would be difficult to open more than 1 suitcase in the room.
Check in and check out was very easy and you can definitely come earlier and rest in the lounge (which has Wifi, hot water, microwave, restroom) while waiting for the 3PM check in time. I felt safe/secure staying here despite having to go to a different floor to wash up since your room card was your key to getting to the restroom and shower rooms (similar to a college dorm lifestyle). Only those with a room key card can travel to the other floors. Pajamas and slippers were accessible in the first floor lounge/lobby, toothbrush/toothpaste are provided in the restrooms, and the shower had citrus scented body soap and shampoo. Air conditioning was strong and I liked the lamps/outlets near our beds (which is futon-style and can be folded up if you needed to use the table and floor mats for seating). There are several restaurants right next to the hotel including Mcdonalds, yakisoba, and Japanese curry. There is a train station on the corner of the block. Overall, this was an inexpensive hotel to stay at with just the necessities. For $35-40 a night, my friend and I can't really complain!

PhilippinesTrain station was right around the corner and the bus station just a stone's throw away with lots of good and affordable food options within the hotel's area (McDonald's, bento/set meals, local restaurants, etc.). Very good location! The hotel was super clean. In fact, this was much preferable with it's numerous shower stalls and toilets versus rooms with just one bathroom. Albeit shared, they were very clean and family members can all take a bath without having to take turns. It also has an elevator which made it easy to move our luggage. Staff was super helpful and nice, even helped us fix a mistake we made when we booked another room but on their different branch location without realizing it. We had a really comfortable stay and would be staying here again if we ever have the fortune to visit Kyoto again. Highly recommended!

CanadaThe rooms are very small, which is to be expected based on the summary, but be sure you know what you're getting into when you book it. It's like a little closet?

NetherlandsI didn’t particularly like breakfast. There are 3 set menus but no vegan options and also quite Japanese orientated. For example, the egg was very leaky, or even raw in one of menus. Fire alarm drill at 2am at night was also a bit unnecessary.
It is a nice and not expensive option to stay in Kyoto. Even though there are some shared facilities such as bathrooms, everything was very calm and clean. Bed is quite minimalistic but comfortable and soft.

NetherlandsIt was more expensive than I am used to paying for hostels. In saying that, Kyoto accommodation in this area is outrageously expensive and it was the most affordable I could find. Plus, it was probably the nicest hostel I've ever stayed in.
The location was pretty central and very easy to get from the train station. The Hostel was incredibly clean, the bathrooms had loads of showers and the staff were really helpful. The luggage storage was great to have too. The rooms are small but perfect if you're going to be out for most of the day.

AustraliaNo TV in room and cannot use speakers in room but glad to see everyone complying with this request as well. Matress was a bit thin so you will feel the wood.
Nice hotel in a nice neighbourhood. Very close to the subway station and only a couple of stops away from Kyoto Station. Lots of food options nearby as well. The hotel is essentially a capsule style hotel with similar rules. Shared bathroom and shared showers. No TV in room but it is literally a place to put your belongings in and explore this town. met all my expectations. WIFI is exceptionally fast.
