Shared toilets were fantastic and because there was a male and female toilet on each floor these were rarely busy. Shower facilities were excellent too. Close to many public transport options too!

Bus stops also very close. Even though the bathroom and restrooms are shared, the facilities are super clean, I never waited in line, the amenities were always maintained.

United StatesThis station is one stop away from Kyoto station, but there isn't a ton to do in the immediate area. There were a lot of other hotels and a few food places right at the intersection. The other Pocket Hotel location seems to be in a more interesting area.
I showered at different times at the evening during my stay and there were always empty showers, and the bathroom was always clean. I appreciated the small touches like stools in the bathroom to sit on, hair dryers, and the small bags to carry towels and shower goods to and from the room. The facilities seemed to be very well taken care of!

United StatesMy main complaint would be the thin bed (mattress? futon? bed topper?). I thought maybe I just wasn't used to it yet, but by day 4, my back was still not feeling the greatest. I've stayed in other places with thin mattresses too, but for some reason, this one just didn't work for me (or my kids). Other than that, this place is great and I would stay again (but maybe ask for to double the mattress...). Kind of felt bad for the guys--their shower room is on the ground floor, next door to the common room that everyone passes through, and someone was overzealous with their cologne so it drifted into the common areas and hallways. Also, rooms are small (I'm sure there are smaller elsewhere), but you should already be prepared for that in this country.
A really great budget hotel/hostel, super close to everything (train station, bus, conbini, restaurants, etc). Very clean, with a really well-thought out way of doing things/sharing space for guests. Showers for women are on the 2nd floor, with 8-9 private shower rooms, 5 sink stations with chairs, hair dryers, amenities like toothbrushes/toothpaste/q-tips. The foam handsoap the hotel uses is wonderful, lightly fragrant. Really, really enjoyed my stay here. The couple of restaurants next to this hostel were really great too, my kids ate there almost every day of our stay--everyone was super friendly in the area. There are washer-dryers that are available, you can use coins/IC card/etc to pay, and it lets you lock in your clothes with a pin so no one else can come steal your stuff (staff can override this of course, so don't be a dink and leave your stuff in there beyond the time indicated). Pretty much every door is secured by your card (shared toilets/showers/elevators/etc) so my kids and I felt very safe at all times.

United StatesThe beds were not the most comfortable since you're essentially sleeping on what is similar to a futon. But you get what you came for and it wasn't bad at all. It's just like the photos.
The room was spacious and clean. I really liked that they would change the bath towels every day. The showers were clean and had many amenities. And the location is great, a straight walk to the palace, very close to a popular market place, subways and attractions. But by far the most praise goes to the staff who went above and beyond to assist. I am beyond grateful to the staff who helped translate and make phone calls for me when I had lost my valuable. Without him we may have been stranded.
