Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content

To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.

I thought that this hostel has downgraded a bit from last I stayed here. A five year gap has changed many things about the hostel which made the phrase "you get what you paid for" a reality. For example, they used to issue guests three free towels per night upon request, but when I went there recently I got only one for the entire stay; ask for any extra and you had to pay 100 yen per towel. It was a minor detail and understandable, given the circumstances, but I was taken aback at this change. Although I should be used to it as a solo traveler, the close quarters living arrangement with other foreigners, not just Americans, was a challenge. In simpler terms, I was wise to bring a nice pair of Noise Cancelling headphones because there were nights when a rowdy bunch of people walked through the sleeping compartment, disrespecting those who needed rest. After this incident, I had to get used to sleeping in headphones to get even a wink of sleep.
I liked the bare bones essentials of this hostel. It was affordable when I reserved a bed. All I needed was a shelter for the night and Wise Owl provided it. The receptionist was a foreigner, so there was no need to speak Japanese. He was friendly and welcomed weary travelers like me. The bed was comfortable and there were multiple toilets as well as showers stalls which were much appreciated at a hostel that hosts many travelers. The place had an easy access to the neighborhood in Shibuya that had a plethora of food options.

It seemed a bit pricey. The floors need more cleaning, there was old gum stuck to them and lots of dust under the bed I used for storage.
It was fairly spacious and bathrooms are cleaned daily. There's no major complaints I have.

It was satisfactory for the price. There’s no common area to sit though, you need to buy stuff from the restaurant located downstairs by the reception in order to sit there.
Located 10 minute walk from Shibuya. Perfectly located in Tokyo for people wanting to visit there on the cheap.

In the large room we stayed we had to share about 10 bunk beds so there was alot of people sharing a room essentially. It can be a great experience like we had but if there is a bad apple in the bunch they can ruin a good night's sleep ! Keep in mind
Good location close to Shibuya crossing if you can walk 10 minutes or the bus can get you there in about the same time with less physical exertion.

It was a bit of a walk to shibuya station.

The hostel shares the ground floor with a “burger bar”. This caused the elevator and bottom floor to have a constant old grease smell. Not pleasant at any hour. Place needs to invest in proper ventilation/exhaust fans
Really fantastic staff, facilities were clean, fairly decent location (15-20 walk to Shibuya scramble)

It was pretty cold inside the bathrooms and the showers, could be because it's winter. Also some people would talk pretty loudly at night, even though all in all the room was pretty quiet and I could sleep well most of the nights. I'd still recommend earplugs.
I stayed here for a week and would recommend the place! Great location, the bed was very comfortable, everything was super clean, there was a USB plug next to bed and a locker that you could lock with a key (it fitted my backpack). I stayed in a mixed room on the 4th floor, but the beds are located pretty well in different corners, so it doesn't even feel like it's a massive 28 person room.

Only one lift for quite a lot floors and not stairs options, long waiting times to use the lift. Halls and other spaces outside the rooms were cold (apply for winter season)

Despite being in shibuya, its about a 20 min walk to the nearest station.
Nice facilities. Beds are private and comfortable. There's also a fridge + freezer to store food in.

Mediocre kitchen facilities. Strange dorm setup, quite loud and light stays on till late. No space for luggage in dorms. We weren’t allowed to eat/use downstairs lobby area when restaurant was open.
Excellent location - easy walk to Shibuya station, close to a convenience store. Nice downstairs area (bar/restaurant/chill place). Good showers/bathroom facilities . Very accomodating with luggage storage before check in and after check out.
