Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.

By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

CanadaBeautiful spot in a quiet and historic part of Kyoto. Close to a lot of historic areas, parks, and temples. The breakfast was also incredible - highly recommend including it in your booking!

United StatesEverything was perfect!
Fantastic stay last week in Kyoto at Hotel Yuraku Kyo-yasaka. Not many hotels are as stunning in person as in the pictures. Great location in Kyoto, excellent walking location to temples and restaurants but tucked off the main streets. Exceptional service and fantastic breakfast service, a great way to start the day. Highly recommend staying here in Kyoto, you wont want to leave your room.

United KingdomThere is nothing I didn’t like, everything about this place is amazing. Only thing I can mention is that the staff is not very flexible, for example we asked to cancel the breakfast we booked the day before however they said no as they already shopped for the ingredients based on numbers. I understand this is fair but I would rather not have that breakfast as I did not feel hungry. But all good.
We had a private onsen in our room which was the best thing ever. Rooms were extremely clean, the beds were massive and super comfortable for 2 people. I want to buy the same bed for myself now. Snacks and tea provided for free at the hotel were gorgeous

United StatesIt’s a bit of a walk from the train station, so if you have a lot of luggage a taxi might be worth it.
Best place we stayed in Japan! The private onsen was AMAZING. Huge room, very clean and lovely staff. I only wish I reserved breakfast at the hotel, it smelled so good. I stayed at a 5-star ryoken hotel in Tokyo for 3x the price, and it was disappointing after staying here. If/when I go back to Kyoto, I’ll definitely stay here again.

AustraliaThe location is very nice to walk to and from empty handed. But being a visitor, you're bound to have travel luggage with you. Since the street to hotel is uphill, I would highly recommend catching a taxi to the place. To prepare for when you leave, you can request a taxi booking at the reception so you won't have to carry the heavy luggage to and from.
Stayed 2 nights at room Type B with open air bath. Simply amazing. I was at a loss for word. The room had a mix of modern and traditional vibe. The open air bath was large enough to comfortably fit two. The water temperature was just right to enjoy an open air bath in cold January winter. The location was amazing - about 10 minute walk to Yasaka Temple. Must try the gelato in the lobby. Amazing - highly recommend the strawberry soy milk flavour (I think that's what it was). Regret only staying for 2 nights and not more. Highly recommend, would love to visit again.

CanadaNo laundry service.
Amazing breakfast and the desserts were the standout of each meal. They had house-made snacks that were delicious. The rooms were clean and spacious and beds were very comfortable. The outdoor private hotel tub and garden were beautiful touches during our winter stay - perfect after a long day of walking in the cold. Staff were so friendly and caring. Location was prime for Gion exploration.

United StatesNot so much a dislike, however I can see it being off-putting for others. It's about a 10-15 minute walk from the nearest bus station, and the walk is uphill. If you are already tired from your trip when you arrive, I would recommend splurging for a taxi when you arrive and leave with your luggage. My husband and I had sent our larger luggage sent to our next hotel, and make the trek with our carry-on bag. It is manageable if you are traveling light.
This hotel was so much more than we had expected. We arrived earlier than expected, however the staff was more than happy to hold our luggage. We returned at the check-in time, and they served us tea and snacks while they explained the hotel. Our rooms was just as pictured online, and the view from the room was beautiful. The hotel is on a hillside, so you will get nice views from any room. The hotel is very thoughtfully laid out, and you never hear any of the other guests. At the time of booking, we had decided to skip on the dinner. Once we got there, we regretted it, and sadly they did not have any opening. I recommend enjoying their dinner at least once. They also have a spa, which I was not aware of when booking. I am sure their spa is just as luxurious as everything else. The hotel staff were very kind. Their English is limited at times. When I had called about dinner, the young women was having difficulties explaining something to me. So she came up to our room and used a translation app. I thought the extra effort was really nice. The hotel is located on a quite side of town, so the streets aren't very crowed. You can find the Kodaiji Temple just a 5 minute walk away, which is very beautiful.

United StatesEverything about this hotel exceeded our expectations. The staff were great, the location is perfect for exploring Gion on foot, and the hotel's design and amenities were stunning. The bathroom alone was larger than our entire hotel room at a different hotel in Tokyo. The in-room onsen was so, so amazing as was the oversized shower. The breakfast was quite fantastic. On-site gelateria and coffee shop. This is a GREAT hotel at a very affordable price. Get a room with an onsen!

SingaporeIf i were to nitpick, it would be the distance to train station and bus stops, but nothing too concerning because you can just take a slow walk through the beautiful park and temple nearby.
Fantastic hotel with excellent service, friendly and helpful staff, great private onsen experience with stunning view. Breakfast is very sumptuous as well.

CanadaSuch a beautiful well kept property. The staff were very courteous and spoke English well! We were greeted with a tea and snack upon arrival while they. explained the amenities to us. They took our shoes and bags and stored them as well. There was a variety of drinks and snacks available in the common room, which they encouraged us to use as an area to socialize outside our rooms. There was also a happy hour service, were they served sparkling wine and whiskey. They provided yukatas that we could wear into the common area and night wear for use in our rooms. The baths were prepared for us before our arrival and felt amazing after lots of walking in Kyoto. I wish we stayed for more nights here! Will definitely come back next time we’re in the area. Did I mention they also have a gelateria that is discounted and available to guests until 10pm!

HUGE SPACIOUS ROOM! TOOTHBRUSHES BIGGER THAN AVERAGE TOOTHBRUSH! I'm 6 feet 2 inches so they gave me a larger bathrobe, or maybe it was called yukata. It was our honeymoon and they treated us so well. They also had a lot of other free amenities in the restroom that I can't think of, but I know my wife took all of it. I can't remember if I added breakfast or if it was included, but it was worth it. Super delicious Japanese meal that made us both very full to start our day. This place rocks!
