Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

The staff were very welcoming and helpful. They answered all our questions about the locality and we enjoyed talking to them about Japanese culture and customs. It was a pleasure to stay in a traditional ryokan with such lovely staff.

United Arab EmiratesNo TV screen for end of day relaxation. there is no bathroom cleaning and no changing bed sheets. The pillows were a little bit uncomfortable Its a traditional japanese building , so the following is understandable, there absolutely no soundproofing so and if you're on the ground floor you will hear every step from the upper floor, even so any anyone talking in the reception or hall
Spacious japanese style bathtub, floor heating and heated toilet seat, very nice staff The provided jinbei (japanese pajamas) were very nice and comfortable to wear

ThailandThere is nothing to change, nothing we didn't like. The historical significance and location inside Gion make the seven-night stay exactly what we wanted.
The Taisho era building in Gion was a great base for us, a party of 2. The hosts were very polite, they gave fair warning about the lack of soundproofing due to the building's age and materials used. The Hinoki bathtub was a bonus to the trip. Floor heating and ample temperature control were great for winter in Kyoto. The location is amazing, centrally accessible to all major areas, and walking 'home' is part of the experience. Our room had a kitchenette, which was also essential, we like cooking with local fresh ingredients. (Also the soba (buckwheat) pillows are a nice touch!)

United StatesThat we couldn’t stay longer.
A wonderful historic building, beautifully adapted to serve as an inn! It was extremely spacious and well-equipped. The wooden bathtub and tatami floors were among the many traditional elements that were enhanced by a well-equipped small kitchen. Both the rooms in our suite looked out on lovely gardens. The staff was exceptionally nice and helpful. What a treat!

The ryokan is in a beautiful building full of character and charme! It is very well located in the middle of Gion surrounded by bars, restaurants and shops, but still quite. It is extremely clean and confortable. Our room was for 5 people and it was a little apartment Japanese style. We really loved it

United StatesThe listing/name of the property is in Japanese on booking.com, but the actual property is called GION KYOKA in English. This was not a problem since the address was provided for our taxi driver, but "GION KYOKA" would be an easier listing title to remember :-)
We were absolutely ecstatic with our stay here! The ryokan had the charm of a historic/traditional Japanese architecture, but is modernized and impeccable in every way. We were surprised with how large our accommodations were with a tatami tea room, a compact yet efficient kitchen, beautiful onsen bath and spacious bedroom...all with gorgeous views of our own little zen gardens. The amenities were also very generous, and we loved the pajamas they provided. I loved the smell of the cedar hardwood that permeated the space. Most memorable were the kaiseki dinner and breakfast in a sublime historical Gion neighborhood location (on a quiet corner that was not overrun by tourists) where we had a couple of fleeting geisha sightings. Our chef was extremely polite and the food was extraordinary for both meals! We will always remember our stay here for the Kyoto experience we always dreamed of.

Everything is perfect. The room size is quite big and far more than we expected. The room is clean and new but still keeps the traditional style of Japanese. The breakfast is the highlight of this hotel, traditional, high quality, and with good services. The staff are polite and very helpful.
