Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. CanadaNot a lot of available information about activities in the area, I had to look it up on my own.
Great location! Right in between the beach and the monkey sanctuary.

United KingdomThe hotel/hostel is situated in AKUMAL village, therefore you will have to walk along the overbridge in order to reach the beach (for which there is an entry fee). The walk to the beach is about fifteen minutes. The hotel has wonderful private rooms and a spacious dorm with very comfortable beds. The kitchen is big and well equipped and is kept spotless by the lovely staff. There is also a big sitting room where you can watch TV or just relax. Lara, the owner, is delightful and the rest of the staff are very friendly and helpful. I really felt at home and even decided to extend my stay.

United StatesThe hostel is in the Pueblo of Akumal a long walk from the beach across the highway. Too far to carry my paddleboard. Beach access in Akumal is TERRIBLE on foot - blocked off by private property - BOOO! Akumal, like every other town I've been in in Mexico is VERY NOISY - motorcycles racing up and down the roads (super noisy - I don't think they have mufflers!), trucks rumbling down the road, dogs barking, people shouting, etc....You can even hear noise on the top deck. And be careful crossing the street! And typical of so many areas I've visited in Mexico, LOTS of trash strewn about. Trash and garbage are deposited in bags on the street just outside the hostel and the dogs rip the bags open and spread the garbage around - they also do their business on the sidewalk and street near the trash deposit - I just about stepped in it when I first arrived - YUCK!
I've stayed in dozens of hostels in North America and Australia - Itza is one of the best hostels I've ever stayed in. The owner is welcoming, friendly and helpful. The kitchen is big and well equipped with gas stove (all burners work!), an oven, a toaster a large refrigerator, plenty of pots, pans and eating utensils - and they serve delicious pancakes every morning for breakfast - BRAVO! The dorm room has comfortable beds, air conditioning that always worked (you need it!) and plenty of storage for your luggage. The bathroom is unisex, was clean and had spacious showers with plenty of hot water. The pool on the roof is small but clean - a nice break from the Mexican heat. The Hostel is in the Pueblo of Akumal. There is an excellent Fruiteria 3 blocks into the town (I'm gonna miss those Mangoes!) The Pollo Asado vendor on the main road 3 blocks into town is excellent - he does NOT overcook the chicken! - A tasty lunch for 50 pesos.

United StatesJust surroundings, the whole pueblo could be a little more developed.
It felt like an Island, Tower, or Fortress amidst a not-so-comfortable yet probably quite regular and normal environment. I loved the ho(s)tel, its staff, and their service. I wouldn't hesitate to return. I walked to all the great beaches and snorkeling places in Akumal. If you can walk, you will be able to as well.

United KingdomJust a heads-up: getting to the beach involves crossing a busy road; the footbridge and flyover can be a bit daunting, especially after a few tequilas! And although I love dogs they were pretty vocal at night!
The Itza is a fantastic budget-friendly option for travelers visiting Akumal. We were really happy with our stay. The rooms are spacious, clean, and well-equipped, with a comfortable double bed, a bunk bed, and a private bathroom – everything we needed. The location is great too! It's an easy walk 15-20 min walk to Akumal Bay, where we had an amazing time swimming with turtles (definitely get there early before the crowds!)! Back at the hotel, the rooftop pool was a huge bonus, and catching the sunrise from up there was absolutely worth waking up early for. The staff were also incredibly lovely and friendly, making our stay even more enjoyable.

United StatesUltimately very accessible to beach but Note that it was a 15 minute walk. The town was a lowkey locals town. Everyone in the town was very nice, however there wasn’t a lot of tourists. Personally, We enjoyed that aspect. There was nothing that we didn’t like.
The staff were exceptional. They were so warm, and friendly, going above and beyond to ensure we enjoyed our stay. The pool and rooftop was wonderful. The facilities were clean and quiet. High attention to detail with diffusers (not over powering at all). The location was good. Kitchen area was very well equipped. The laundry service was a huge bonus. Highly recommend this hostel. Shoutout to juani, Eduardo and Aldair for wonderful service and even helped us practice Spanish.

GermanyWe were very pleasantly surprised by this hotel/hostel. We slept in the dorm room, the beds were very comfortably with a nightstand and locker for our backpacks. There were pancakes for breakfast and a big kitchen with a fridge to store your things. The roof top pool was also quite nice. Over all we really enjoyed our stay and would come back any time.

SwedenNothing really. The water was off a few times on separate days, but that seemed to be a city-problem, not hotel-problem.
One of few places to stay in the town part of akumal. good location, friendly staff, nice pancakes and coffee in the morning, comfortable rooms with good showers. Roof top area is pretty nice, with a clean pool and lot of space to hang out. More of a hostel vibe than hotel, so every chance to be social if you want.

United StatesLobby area was a bit disheveled and unappealing. Bathroom had a humidity smell. None of these were very impactful factors.

CanadaOccasionally the water would stop working for parts of the day, wasn't a big deal
Dorm bed was super comfortable, nice big locker, clean bathrooms, amazing rooftop pool and view. Can not say enough good things about the staff though - I stayed for 10 nights and they made me feel almost like part of the family. Lara, Gabriel, Romina, Jairo, Lola, Milli, and the rest of the team - thank you for an absolutely wonderful stay!!

GermanyWe didn´t had any hot water and although we were told we would get coffee and pancakes in the morning, that didnt´t work on "our" morning.
We had a double room with bathroom at the hostel We were met by the owner/manager, the check in was uncomplicated and easy. There is a big kitchen downstairs, that the guesst may use and a tiny pool on rooftop. The room, although quite small was very clean and the huge double bed was really soft and comfortable. That was the best bed we had on our Yucatan-trip (8 different accomodations). We asked for an extra blanket and cloth hangers and got them directly! Nicely decorated, moskito net for the window. The bathroom was OK, flush and shower working. We also used the laundry service at the hotel, that was quick and good. The location absolutely perfect in Akumal for visiting Tumal or Coba ruins. Akumal is a sweet, pretty local village with some selection of local restaurants and small shops. We really enjoed our time there.

ItalyAmazing experience! If I could I would give more than 5 stars. A little authentic gem in the touristic riviera Maya. 5 minutes walking from the colectivos that connect Akumal with Tulum and Playa del Carmen, 15 minutes walking from the famous Playa Akumal and 5 minutes walking from the amazing Cenote Balam Ha. Staff is extremely kind and will provide you with all the info you need about transports, other playas to visit, snorkleng, diving etc (English and Spanish speaker). The rooms are spacious with silent airco and hot water in the shower. On the rooftop a beautiful swimming pool where to look at the sunset in all the quietness!

GermanyThe beds did not have curtains, there where three men in the shared room and it was very stinky. I think this is just due to the other guests though. Hot water didn't work however I could shower in a different place where it worked which was great.
The Staff was super friendly and knowledgeable. The common areas are comfortable and they prepare amazing pancakes in the morning.

GermanyDue to natural protection and shoreline development you cannot get to the beach for free. You can either enter trough the Tsuuk akumal (small fee for a center with lockers, changing rooms and showers) or the Hotel Akumal Caribe (where you would have to eat/drink at the LOL-Ha restaurant/bar). Then you can go to the beach and into the sea but only certain sections, since you cannot swim with turtles just on your own. To do so, you have to be accompanied by a local guide. You can either book one along the street to the beach, at the Akumal dive center or via the hotel reception who also know local guides who are certified. The hotel is not in the main part of the town which is quite simple and not on the beach. To get to the beach you always have to overcross the highway on a bridge.
The hotel is located in the town of Akumal, a 15min walk away from the beach. The personnel is very friendly, welcoming and willing to assist you in selecting offers to explore the natural wonders of the region. The room was nice and clean. The breakfast consisted of a toast with jam, which was small but very good. The wonderful rooftop offers a great view of the region, an outdoor kitchen and a small pool, which is illuminated at night.
