Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United StatesI sure wish they had an elevator as I get older and find it harder to go up and down the stairs! But the stairs are all Mexican tile and there are handrails, so it's a pretty climb! Other than the stairs, NO complaints at all.
Hotel Lunata is an awesome retreat in the bustling 5th Avenue area of Playa del Carmen. We continue to return and stay here because of the wonderful staff and the colorful and relaxing Mexican rooms. Michel, Niki, Ivan and Carlos (who wheeled our luggage to the bus station) are so friendly! The location is great and near our favorite restaurants. Because we come from the airport by bus (a great deal!) it's a short walk to the hotel. The staff is amazing and so helpful with luggage and questions in general. Love this place!

Trinidad and TobagoThe breakfast is mid which isn’t an issue because there are restaurants everywhere and many open for breakfast. However, they should provide real butter instead of that awful margarine.
The property is on the 5th avenue not far from the ADO bus station. Even though it’s on the 5th you can barely hear the noise on the street at night once you close the windows. The staff were extremely attentive and friendly. We booked 2 rooms and one of the rooms was facing the garden which is super quiet. You will forget that you’re on the 5th Ave when you are in the garden. It’s quite secluded. The bathroom looks better in person.

Everything was exceptional, if you don't mind the loud music and noise from the busy 5th avenue then this is the perfect spot.

CanadaNothing other than what I already mentioned!
Loved it here. Spacious rooms, beds were so comfy and it's close to shopping, the beach and the ferries to Cozumel. I initially stayed in a room facing 5th avenue which I later realized was a bad idea because Im not a great sleeper and need quiet. Luckily the staff of Hotel Lunata had a cancellation and was able to move me to a garden-facing room which was so much quieter and I slept great. If they hadn't had a garden room available, they were willing to refund me if I wanted to move to another hotel which I appreciate. I'd stay here again, but only in a garden facing room . The rooms and the hotel truly are lovely, it's a very nice place to stay!

United StatesHonestly, nothing was bad about this place.
Hotel Lunata Our arrival in Cancun began with a different hotel that was truly disheartening; it was just too bad to commit to staying in. We went on Booking, and saw Hotel Lunata as an happy option, and decided to book it. We walked down 5th, found the hotel, and were greeted by a lovely entryway, and courtyard. We stepped up to reception, and were welcomed by Michelle, who is the absolute best representative a hotel could ever ask for. We were sweaty, hot, and were frazzled from the frustration of our other (disgusting) reserved hotel. She met us with charm, understanding, and calm. We explained what had happened, and asked if we could see the room, as we were now leery of all rooms in Cancun -LOL. We were pretty sure we were going to like it, as the courtyard to the hotel is wonderful. Well, we were NOT disappointed! The entire place has an old-world charm to it without being "old." Traditional settings, with comfort and ease at its heart. We booked the two-double-bed room called "Europa" (all the rooms in the hotel had names like this. "Bianca" or "Ophelia" as an example), and it was decorated in hacienda-style, but with modern comfort in mind. The air con was superb, as was the WiFi. It was also clean as can be. Our room was on the courtyard side, which was perfect, as you could walk in from the 5th avenue hustle and bustle (PLENTY of hustle), and not hear a thing. The double-sliders on the lovely balcony helped that quite a bit. We would imagine if you want more connection to the 5th Avenue vibe, booking a room on that side would be great, as you could stand on your balcony, and immerse yourself in the action a bit more. The beds are FIRM -which we both love, and the shower and bathroom were terrific. There is also a close-drying line in the shower, and soap and shampoo provided. The hotel has hot/cold water dispensers dotted around the grounds, and a lite breakfast served in the morning.

GermanyThe only thing I can think of which would be a small improvement would be providing some juice for breakfast. This is definitely not a major shortcoming, however.
This was my 4th visit to Hotel Lunata in Playa del Carmen since 2002. On the surface, very little has changed over the years. In this case, that is a very good thing! Of course there has been some modernization in that time, such as very good WiFi for each room, however the warm and inviting room design, the friendly staff and the overall impression the hotel leaves have all not changed. We again had a very pleasant visit and were sad to leave. The breakfast is very basic with some cereals, tea, coffee and toast. It’s enough to get you going into the day, but it’s not a feast and is not the main focus of this boutique hotel. It is self-service in the Lunata natural garden, just like it was in 2002. We brought some fruits from the market and the staff offered to peel and cut the fruit for us. Fantastic service.

AustraliaJust a note for future travellers - this hotel really is right in the centre of it all! And while it is convenient, the noise really is something else! The hotel has done their best with the double glazed balcony doors etc, but it still bleeds through. If you’re in PDC to party, this is the hotel for you! If you’re there to explore and not really get into the party scene (like us) then I’d recommend staying a few streets back, as the music only finished at 3am. Nothing the hotel can change! Just a note for those who would prefer a little more quiet.
There is a lot to love about hotel Lunata - the friendly and accommodating staff, the beautiful decor of the hotel, the big size of the rooms, the quaint (but perfect for us!) breakfast offering, and the back garden that provided a lovely respite from the hustle and bustle. If this hotel was off 5th ave, it would be a 10/10 for me!
