Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
Guidelines and Standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.

It felt very insecure environment, there were drunk aggressive people outside, the coffeeshop music was loud and couldn't sleep, and the room was quite small and dark.

Before making the reservation, I read reviews mentioning that the heating in the room wasn’t working. I then called the hotel, and they assured me that the heating is working now and there is no need to worry, so I proceeded with the reservation. Unfortunately, this wasn’t true – the room was even colder than outside, and the receptionist was very unhelpful. However, I believe that in summer, this will be a great and cheep place to stay for 1 or 2 nights.
The location and view was great, but otherwise, nothing special.

Small room,sadly pretty noisy and the bed was struggling a lot

Someone smoked at the entrance all the time at night and the room smelled faintly of tobacco, we stayed one night and felt ok, not recommended for a long stay, the smell of marijuana was too smoky

The stairs are extremely steep, so if you have luggage, just forget it if you can even go above with it. Its too much steep. Secondly, the furniture was very fragile, don’t play with the bed or you can even break it without your consciousness.
Its much secure. I got single individual private room, so it was pretty okay. The location is perfect, right in the heart of city centre.

I stay in a single bed room. They put everything like towel, tissue and etc. but there is not even any hand soap. Also windows of the room are not open. Might be they want to stop someone from smoking inside but I do not understand it. You feel a little bit lack of oxygen in the room.
Rooms are nice and clean. Location of the hostel is so perfect, when you get out there is small and nice coffee shop. If you walk towards to Amsterdam central station there is place to rent a bike and also in 10 min. walk you will arrive to the DAM Square.

First of all you should pay 10 euro in cash as a deposit to return the room key! I have booked single room with shared bath room, the room was too small and hot and the fan was broken so I had to ask for another one. the stairs are so narrow and sloping you have to be careful, and It was noisy because every time the guests open or close their rooms door you will be awake definitely.
The best thing was the location it was perfect.

The guest in bed three. I was clearly not interested in his company, but i had to be polite. So it was very awkward in the Plug. He just followed me to the shop, telling me he wanted to do stuff. I hate those people so much; because they only understand: "I don't want to see your sad face when I chill", and than he'd keep me awake with his sadness. Still had a good sleep though
Nice room, seems like a boat in terms of the atmosphere.

I'm not convinced the bedsheets were fresh. There were hairs in it as I arrived.
The location was great and it's cheap. You're getting what you pay for.

The bathroom was not that clean on the top floor and didn't have a hanger for towels or clothes to hang during bathing

Please ensure amenities like high quality linen, soap and reliable hot water are provided. Also make sure to include other basis amenities like iron, cups etc.
The place was clean, but the linen could be improved. Additionally, the hot water wasn't working in the early morning, making it difficult to take a shower
