We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.

By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United StatesRoom in desperate need of a facelift (stains on ceiling, buckling floor, warped room door, cracked bathroom sink, discolored grout in bathroom) roof-top deck being closed, broken elevator, not enough breakfast seating, hotel staff monopolizing parking spaces designed for guest loading and unloading
Location was excellent - very close to Times Square. Breakfast was adequate (but food items were not replaced frequently enough), bedding and pillows were very comfortable.

Ireland3 elevators for the whole hotel. 1 not working at all for the duration of our stay. There was days where only 1 was working. No service elevator for staff, which means they took up space and time, stopping at floors, which was unnecessary.people are waiting up to 45mins on a high floor for the elevators.

SpainThe rooms were not bad, especially the rooms with views on the upper floors. However, the hotel has in my opinion two serious problems that make your stay miserable. The first is the fact that it has 40 floors and 3 elevators, of which during our stay two of them were out of order most of the days, making very, very difficult to go down from the upper floors, we had to wait 15 minutes to go down because the elevator was always full when it stopped at our floor. In the end, we had to walk down several times from the 37th floor... amazing! The second problem is the breakfast, the dining room is small, there are very few tables for so many people and it is difficult to find a free table. The breakfast is very limited, there is no variety and as there are many people everything is scarce (milk, muffins, napkins, butter, etc.). In addition, the plates are made of paper and the cutlery is made of plastic. Another issue is the housekeeping of the rooms, theoretically it was every other day, however in 7 days we had our room cleaned only twice. In short, I'm very disappointed with the hotel and it almost made my stay unpleasant, fortunately the city is amazing!
The location and the views from the room.

United KingdomWorst elevator I've ever encounter - always overcrowded, average wait time of 15 minutes Poor house keeping where the bed was made without a duvet cover. Asked on two separate occasions to address this and they ended up just leaving a duvet cover in the room for us to apply ourselves. Thick mold also found on 4x slices of bread during breakfast service - spoke with a hospitality staff member who removed just those slices instead of the whole loaf..

NorwayI have been to New York seven times, and never have I had such a bad experience at a hotel like this time living at the Element Hotel. First of all, the personell was not nice. They never said «Hi» to us or smiled, which I think is very important in order to feel seen. The second thing; only 2 out of 3 elevators was working. We lived at the 34th floor and had to wait for more than 20 minutes to get both up and down, which was extremely annoying. The third thing: There were almost no hot weather in our room, and the water smelled nasty. Also, the shower was not properly cleaned. Overall, I really don’t understand how this hotel can be four stars. I will never come back here and I really do not recommend others to live here as well. I don’t understand how this hotel has gotten so Good reviews, and I was therefore very dissapointed.
Very little. The one thing must be the location.

South Africa1. SHOCKING elevators. There are 3 of which only 2 worked some of the time, often only 1 was operational as the staff used it for services. 20 to 30 minute wait for a lift, if you are lucky. We walked down the 18 flights each morning. We were told it was being fixed the day after our arrival. This was a blatant lie. 2. Breakfast is a bunfight 3. Garbage trucks collect from outside the hotel at 4am. Noisy!
1.Decent bathroom (although hot water in short supply in the evening) 2. Close to Broadway for shows (but that location also means some undesirable elements in the streets)

RomaniaThe cleanliness of the rooms floor could be improved, but the bathroom was clean though. There was an incident during our stay where the fire alarm in the hotel went off and everybody was scared and started evacuation. It was a false alarm and nobody was hurt but I'm sure their fire alarm system should be checked and evacuation procedure updated because even though they have 3 elevators they are slow when there's a lot of people requesting stops at their respective floors and the stairs are narrow which made the evacuation very slow especially if you had your room on one of the top floors. I can only imagine how bad it would be in case of a real emergency...
The location of the hotel is absolutely perfect if you want to explore the city center by foot because it's a short walk away from the Times Square area. The metro station was also 2 or 3 blocks away. We felt pretty safe in the neighborhood while walking at any hour. Amenities are nice and pretty modern. Breakfast was generous and you had plenty of options also super tasty! We felt comfortable overall and would definitely recommend booking this place.

Denmark3 elevators for more than 30 floors. We had to wait several minutes before an elevator was available. That's pretty annoying, when you are staying on the 28th floor. Breakfast was always overcrowded. Maybe they could create 2 breakfast shifts to better distribute the costumers.

CanadaDespite being close to Times Square it is also right next to heroin alley. Daily woke up to passed out drug users right outside front step. One day someone was defecating within 20ft of front door. Used to be great location and unfortunately staff can’t do much about the street but it certainly detracts from the hotel and overall stay. The breakfast was often served cold or lacking items and considering the lack of variety should have been at least replenished in a timely fashion. Stayed here years ago and miss the old element since it seemed much cleaner back then and frankly safer. While we weren’t afraid for our personal safety it was quite interesting to walk out and see the neighborhood drug dealers on the corner every morning.

United KingdomEverything was genuinely fantastic, no complaints
Our family booked a couple rooms at the Element in July and had the most amazing stay! The staff were just so genuinely friendly and helpful and welcoming at every turn. The rooms have everything you need if you want to cook or stay a while--but they also provide an amazing breakfast. A huge bonus and surprise was the Happy Hour Monday through Thursday evenings. Nice bread, olives, cheese, Chex mix, and drinks. I'd go back for that and for the whole atmosphere; location can't be beat; price was fantastic when we booked. Our dog loved it too. Can't speak highly enough of the whole experience.

United KingdomVery dodgy area full of addicts using drugs on street or passed out, I felt unsafe, really anxious and scared. Couldn't wait to get out of there. Shower misplaced flooded the floor and tv wasnt working at the start, there was a cable not connected. Felt like a scam for tipping maintenance guy, whom couldnt speak English to the point that he gave me his phone on Google translate for me to write what I was saying.
The room was great, clean, with good air conditioner, with small kitchen and bed was really comfortable and big.
