Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.

Staff were great - very helpful. They accommodated any additional needs we had throughout the stay (like early check-in, baggage storage, extra blankets, a kettle etc). The hotel has a great vibe and very LGBTQ+ friendly! The room was very cozy and quiet. Good location in Downtown - easy to access the key DC tourist sites. We booked the room with the breakfast option which gives you vouchers to choose either a breakfast sandwich, burrito, or 2 pastries + a tea or coffee at their breakfast café. I thought the breakfast options and food were good. Would definitely stay there again if I return to DC.

The shower pressure was very strong which didn’t allow for the water to drain causing a mess

The 2 lifts are so slow... No coffee machine / tea in the room ?? The AC is crazy, when it's ON, it's blowing full force and right on your head when sleeping. I turned ill (big cough and bit of fever) after only 2 nights! I tried to switch it off completely but with the summer heat peaking in DC it was just not possible to breathe anymore in the room.
Very good hotel, staffs are great and very kind. Clean, room was big. Well located in DC, near the Metro and convenient stores too.

Most everything was perfect! Would like to see a bathroom mirror light for makeup application.
Beautiful hotel, inclusive, artsy. Friendly staff. Great location. Wonderful decor. I've never seen a hotel embrace culture as strongly as this one. Highly recommend as a stay and an experience!

There were no tea and coffee facilities available in the room. I had to specifically request these and once I did, they forgot to bring them up to my room! I also would have appreciated it if the staff had reiterated what facilities were available and also what time breakfast was served (upon my arrival.) I don't think this occurred. This meant that I forgot about some of the features of the hotel such as the gym and speakeasy bar.
The decor was sublime. The room was very bohemian, retro (circa 1970s chic.) The water pressure in the shower was good and the room came with extra features such as Netflix available via the TV (if you have an account) and a record player and records. There is also a roof top bar (which is fab) and afro beats yoga classes in the wellness centre. What more could you want?! I was really sad to leave and wished I was able to spend a few more days there.

Great location, awesome rooftop bar, and wonderfully inviting and friendly staff. Allegory was a great surprise bar as well. Just excellent amenities at your finger tips!

I didn't like the food selection and quality in the Baker's Daughter restaurant.
The speakeasy bar was great. The record player and records in the room is a great unique feature.

No amenities in the room, expensive hotel parking (like all other hotels) cheaper parking garages around the block.
Cool vibes, nicely decorated room, super comfy bed. Good location, next to white house etc. And walking distance from restaurants and bars. Two good bakeries right outside.

The location was ideal. Most of the places were walking distance, but subway stations were accessible too. The room was spacious.

We've stayed here a few times. We love the staff, vibe and location. Parking garage nearby and the hotel also offers valet. Easy check in and out.

Beautiful boutique-style hotel at a very convenient location in Washington DC. The room was decorated tastefully and the bathroom super clean and fancy. There’s also a record player with records and books to read in the room, that was a nice touch. Staff were welcoming and very friendly! Totally recommend.
