However, there were a few downsides. On Friday and Saturday nights, the music from the clubs across the street is really loud, you can feel the bass in the room, so it’s tough to get good sleep. The hostel was also quite cold, including the rooms, lobby, and bathrooms. I actually got sick on my second day.

The location was perfect, right in the middle of tons of attractions and great restaurants, and super close to the subway. The hostel was clean (especially for a hostel!), and the lobby had a really beautiful vibe. Breakfast was okay, nothing fancy but it did the job. Overall, a solid and comfortable stay.

Single room price was more than some hotels with en-suite and the cigarettes smell in the entryway.

Location is great. Staff put me further from the street which was great for the noise. TV in the single was a bonus. Liked the towels. Liked ballroom space.

Classic hostel next to Chinatown and North Beach. The staff is very friendly and there is laundry on site. Highly recommended!

Prices were not consistent. It was written on signs at the hostel that overnight bag storage was $4 but they charged me $6. Signs displayed that using washer was $1 and dryer $1.50, but the machines were at least $3.50 per use. Additionally, my food was stolen from the fridge and there was no follow-up from staff about this issue. The bed was not great in room 15, the mattress is tilted up at both sides and dips in the middle so we kept bumping into each other when sleeping at night.

The breakfast could have been a little better but there was the essential. Adding some shelves or storage spaces near the bed could be an extra option!

The place was real nice filled with good people helping each other. Great Place for solo travelers ! The common area is perfect to meet your roommates and have some fun.

A person who shared a room with three of us was very messy. I think she needs to learn how to use the room with others.

Cleanliness:Shower and restroom are always clean. Also availability of shower was good. Shower gel, Shampoo, and conditioner were in a shower. Just make sure to have a towel. Breakfast: Bagle, Yogurt and Coffee made my breakfast table like a home.

One of the best hostel I ever stayed! I was impressed by the cleaning and how people are respectful. The common area is great, you can easily working over there. There is everything to cook and store food and someone is here 24/7.

I would have liked privacy curtains around the bunk like they do in the Tortoise in Seattle but hey, we're all girls together so no big deal really.

If you're on a budget and enjoy hostelling this is the place to be. It's in China Town and walkable to the waterfront and easy access to public transport. The hostel might have been an old dance club at one time with a glitter ball in the ballroom and a piano on a pedestal, crazy carpet; just a fun vibe overall. The staff organise something different every night eg free meal in, subsidised meal out etc. I'm female, 64 years old, travelling solo and never once felt out of place inside or unsafe outside. Great choice 👌

I had to share bedroom with someone who was actually living there, it was more like HER bedroom. She had he stuff everywhere and cae back from work after 3 am and didn't care about the noise or how loud was her phone volume when watching TikTok.

Well located, nice staff, and lots of bathrooms. I was travelling from Australia (long trip) and got to SF early in the morning so They let me do check in when I got there, which was great! Thanks for that.

The Green Tortoise is a well oiled machine! The staff are fantastic, the facilities are great, there's regular cleaning of the common spaces, and the location is sweet.
