Real Bookers. Real stays. Real opinions.
Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United StatesThe Handlery Union Square Hotel is an older property, but its excellent location—just one block from the shopping district—makes it a convenient choice. The bed was a bit uncomfortable for me, but the variety of nearby restaurants made up for it. I highly recommend Caffe Central for a good breakfast.

United KingdomVery expensive for food so used Boudins for their sourdough bread and soup but alot of homeless people so very few places to sit down to eat and we were asked not to give them any food. Shops were empty and poor and even Bloomingdales is closing.
Loved the upgraded room large and comfortable. Excellent position for all we wanted to do and very good staff.

The old part of the hotel is an update for the current Handlery. It becomes 3 star. The "new" Handlery is a typical smallish hotel with decent rooms AC a small exterior outdside pool which isn't much use for SFO weather. Half a bock from Union Square is the best attribute, across the street from the Marriott Westin; i.e. convenient. I was moved from the new section which is a long walk from the old hotel and the only lobby; I'm handicapped walking. I was given an "exeutive suite" which is name that simply means "two rooms". TVs didn't work "no or weak signal". Cool nights no. heat. Staff was very good and helpful.

United KingdomIt was a bit of trek to our room. Maybe put that in the description, and give the option of a room closer to reception that doesn't involve as much walking, stairs and lifts. When there were children playing in the swimming pool, the noise travelled into our bedroom, even with the patio doors closed. We were on the 6th floor.
Lovely sized room. Staff were welcoming and friendly. Close to a few bars, convenience stores, delis & restaurants. Right next to Powell Street where the cable cars are.

BrazilI didn’t like the fact that the room has carpets and you can’t control the air. And you don’t have fans available.

United StatesWiFi. Entertainment options. Can be a little hard to get around.
I’ve stayed at hotels within block of this one for the past few years. At least once every other month. Found a great deal and thought I’d try it out. Room is comfy. The WiFi tho…I’ve never experienced having to reset my electronics over and over just to get a few minutes online. Cable very basic. Spent some much needed downtime here and it was less than what I had expected. I’m glad I stayed though.

New ZealandSome things are getting a little dated eg the room's aircon/ heating system - who would have guessed that to switch it on you need to push the button marked 'Off/Low'? They kindly supplied a portable electric heater. We also borrowed a kettle but when we plugged the two things in together, we blew a fuse. However this was fixed promptly. Really these are minor gripes.
Superb location in the heart of the city. Excellent public transport options nearby. Staff were friendly, with genuine smiles and were very helpful. Room was a good size. Bed was very comfortable. Our room on 6th floor was very quiet for a central city hotel. And it has an open air heated swimming pool - yes, in the middle of the city!

United KingdomI didn't like the size of the room, to me it was a little too small as I prefer a lot more space inside a hotel room, so for me I would definitely order a larger room next time.
I liked the bed itself that was comfortable enough, the coffee machine was a nice little perk and the shower was also very nice. The view outside was a good spot too. The swimming pool was a pleasure also.
