It’s quite dated and basic. the bed wasn’t the most comfortable but all in all good for what you pay.

The stairs can be a bit problematic to floors in the newer building by the pool when you have luggage. There is a disabled lift, but it’s slow and not that big.

I made a mistake and booked the wrong date, only realising on the day we needed to stay. The hotel was very accommodating and fixed this for us. The room was comfortable with lots of amenities.

Except for the 1st girl I think her name was Rena who was lovely. None of the male staff smiled or spoke, very depressing. Didn't bother trying to say hello to them after the 1st day. We were there for 4 days.

Parking wasn't easy. There's a backyard parking that you can use to offload your luggage but they only give you 20 free minutes (you have to pay if you stay longer). Also, this information wasn't entirely obvious, we almost got a fine for initially parking in front of the hotel, before finding out about the other parking lot. Also, some of the staff didn't seem particularly happy about helping us when we needed it, still, they clearly wanted a tip and made it evident at every occasion... No breakfast is available (at all, in the premise), but you get get a 20% voucher (one time only) for a bar nearby. Finally, the place is nice but a bit wore off in the furniture and the interiors.

The room was clean but the window faced back alley. The carpet in the room and the hallways need deep cleaning. It smelled and felt like the room was not properly cleaned (although the room was actually clean).

The location was excellent. Many restaurants and public transportation nearby.

We had an incident with the toilet overflowing resulting in an inch of water on our bathroom floor. However this was resolved promptly by hotel staff.

I had stayed at the Handlery about 10 years ago and returned recently because I loved the location. My daughter and I were travelling together and our room was perfect for us, with lots of space. Very comfortable beds, friendly staff and you can't beat the location in Union Square. We were also very appreciative of the hotel allowing us to check in very early when we arrived after a long flight.

There was no heating in the rooms. I was cold so the staff brought extra blankets immediately but they said they couldn't do anything about the heating due to the age of the hotel. The swimming pool was shut but this was due to an emergency and a note was delivered to our room to inform us .

Superb location right by Union Square and walking distance from BART Station. Lovely old building. Lift. Plenty of helpful staff, good service. Discount given at local diner which did excellent breakfasts.

Having pre-paid for our stay, it was a little disconcerting to arrive and be told that we had to pay. Fortunately, one of the staff was able to sort this problem out fairly quickly but it was stressful after an 11 hour plane flight.

Location: close to shops, restaurants, and cable car. Also close to the Amtrak stop on Mission Street. Easy access to the airport using BART. Having secure baggage store.

The View, and the fact they take 50 dollars a night deposit which takes a good while to find its way back to your Bank even though they release it moment you leave. Just seems a lot to pay for a deposit

Excellent Diner 100yds away which they give you 20% discount if your staying at the Handlery. Breakfast was best ever had. Location was excellent, view was poor but that comes with being in amongst so many tall buildings

Though it was technically very well located, it borders the Tenderloin district which can make you feel uneasy.
