Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United KingdomNothing really...only suggestion would be some lighting for the BBQ.... but managed just fine with a torch :-)
Wow... amazing place, great location. We enjoyed visiting the stunning Joshua Tree National Park, and coming back to relax at the homestead - showering outdoors, having a cold drink or two, reading a book or two, watching the bats and hummingbirds flying around, watching a gorgeous sunset, bbq'ing, then finishing the evening lying outside stargazing until late watching the night sky and shooting stars. This is a beautiful home, extremely well equipped with lots of stylish and quirky decor inside and out. The host has gone above and beyond with lots of small touches that make it a great place to stay and so much more than a regular hotel.

United StatesA bit tired of rules of dishes cleaning and putting away, trash and towels arrangement before leaving for ones who are familiar with staying at hotel. But it was fine for us, we consider it as our home. Choose an inn/motel near the main road instead if you mind this issue.
I did have a good time at Popular Homestead. Great atmosphere, especially for couple or a group of friends. Full of facility and very thoughtful and detail-oriented. The wind at night is a bit cold so we could not have dinner outside, but we had a breakfast in front of the house in a very peaceful view.

ItalyThe pictures on booking don’t match with the apartment, It is a big house divided in two and the pictures show both apartments. We were convinced we were booking the hole house instead we booked only part of it. We were 4 and there was only one king bed and a sofa that became a bed (but doesn’t fit two adults) so we slept three people in the king bed and one in the sofa. Moreover we thought to have also the backyard instead we could only use the front yard. The bathroom has a strange smell and the shutters on the window make a lot a light come in at sunrise we woke up at 4:30 am because of the light and were really tired. There was also no kitchen in our part of the house, there was only a microwave, fridge and oven, not even a sink where to wash the dishes. In the pictures of the house you see a huge kitchen with a big living room and that is not what we got
The outside garden is super and also all the board games and guitar

United StatesHad to set a chair at the corner of the bed to keep from gauging my legs and a stool over the corner of the "fireplace" to avoid stubbing my toes. Hated the keyed entry, especially since our cellphones are phones, not mini-computers, making the process of getting the code and selecting the proper "shield" to make things work harder than necessary. Never met the host during the entire time we were there, leaving me with an uneasy feeling -- I'm old enough to preferred face-to-face conversations over 100% digital communications. Last, but not least is there was no "freezer" for ice (or ice cream).
This is a great place to experience desert living. Standard hotels/motels are often cookie cutter rooms, this is not. If you'd like a "different" experience, this is definitely a place to stay. It's artsy. It's a little "off-grid". It's mind-opening, as is visiting Joshua Tree National Park. Glad we came and will always remember our adventures here.

United StatesThe kitchen layout was odd. We knew there was no stove, but the toaster oven and microwave, etc were on shelves down at knee height and awkward to use, so we didn’t cook. The couches were pretty worn and sat out.
The location was great: quiet, dark skies, beautiful desert outlook. The place was clean and nicely appointed, and the bathroom and shower were great.

United States-The check in process. The owner is constantly asking to provide a deposit through a third party and was being obnoxious about it, -The location is NOT accessible for all cars. There is a difficult dirt road for a small car, -This is a shared location. There is only a fine door and we could hear the neighbours during all of our stay, -The description couldn’t be more unclear. This is a studio apartment, you don’t get the complete space. The outdoor space is also shared so there is zero privacy, -The bed was extremely soft and very uncomfortable. -The owner lists the housekeeping at the same price as the night and yet the guests are expected to do the dishes. I don’t get the logic here. The owner wasn’t helpful at all or willing to take accountability for the lack of clarity. I couldn’t wait to leave this property first thing in the morning. Truly one of my worst stays when I was expecting to unwind and relax. I highly advise to stay elsewhere!
Not much to be honest

GermanyOn the contrary, in the same property land there were two other different spaces for other guests, one was a very noisy classic Airstream (due probably to its air-conditioning system that was always on), and the other was adjacent to our apartment, very poorly isolated (just a wooden door), close to our bed and consequently (depending of the guests) we were able to follow their entire conversations till they were sleeping. The bathroom water system was also noisy, although I imagine that they suffered the same problem from us. Apart from that, we were not able to use the cushions for the outdoor furniture, because there were too dusty, or the microwave, because the interior smell was not nice at all. I find the idea of a hippy-chic environment cool, as long as the cleaning and confort standards associated with the price is reached.
We stayed 4 nights and I really liked that we had plenty of space just for us, wild garden (not very well maintained, though) and amenities like TV, music system, books, coffee machine, fridge, etc. inside the studio.

United StatesNo ice tray!
Fabulous location, right on the edge of town, so felt beautifully isolated and right in the desert, but close to everything we needed. Very comfortable space, really nicely decorated, books, games, music and TV if you need them, and enough of a kitchen that you could eat in.
