Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.

I put the sign on my door to get maid service twice but it never happened and the door sign was on the floor outside my room even though it was hanging fine when I left. That was odd.
Great service in general. Very beautiful hotel. Clean and very comfortable rooms.

It was difficult to control the temperature in our room using the thermostat. Too hot for sleeping and the AC would not work consistently. The room itself and bathroom were very small. One of the push buttons for the toilet did not work. There was no fitted sheet on the bed. Overall, it was very basic and I expected a little more of an upscale experience for the price we paid for the room.
We liked the overall historic feel of the hotel and its location. Staff was very helpful and friendly, especially the bellhops and restaurant staff. Bed was very comfortable.

No Tea option in room, coffee pods in machine. No milk provided. For the prices, coffee and hot drinks should be complimentary. Reception staff not the most helpful.
Handy spot, lovely historic hotel. Great shower and good room, reasonable breakfast cost.

I don't like shower curtains over baths anyway, I prefer to just have an enclosed shower unit in a hotel room, but this one was particularly slippy and I almost fell on a couple of occasions.
The location! For a downtown option in Chicago at this price, it's an excellent option. We were walkable to all of the bars and restaurants, and other attractions on Millennium Mile. We were also able to walk along the lakeside to a boat tour with the Chicago Architecture Society (which I would also recommend). A few aspects of the room showed their age, a cupboard door that wouldn't shut, etc. But nothing serious. Overall, it was a nice, big, comfortable room in the centre of Chicago with all of the facilties we needed.

Nowhere to re-heat leftovers was our only complaint, but we understand why. Just a small inconvenience we encountered.

Carpets are a little old but everything smells good and clean.
The hotel is located in a beautiful designers area, you could walk distance from malls and restaurants, the 360 observation deck is just 1 block away, Our room has a partial beach view, Room was super clean, bed was very confortable we sleep very well every night, service is always aware and friendly. Very good value for the price !

The remote control for the television didn’t work so I couldn’t use it all weekend.

Elevators are very small. No USB plug ins in the room. Our TV didn’t work and the hallway smelled very bad.
Perfect location. Loved the old history of this building. Martini bar is very nice and relaxing after a long day.

Carpets were clean-ish but very just old and smelled musty, also mold in the bathroom ceiling and room corners, poor air quality.

$50 dollars a day deposit is held on top of the price I was quoted for a four night stay. The charge won’t be returned for 5 to 10 business days after you pay. Never had a hotel do this. Poorly explained by staff.
Location is excellent. Great staff. Nice rooms.
