Definitely a little dated. Beds were OK, pillows were like rocks. We could hear anyone talking in the hallway outside, so if you're sensitive to noise, keep that in mind - definitely not super quiet. Also, the doors have no chain-locks, and traveling as solo females, this made us a little concerned and uncomfortable.

Location is hard to beat -- super walkable, and easy access to trains + buses. Bathroom was the best part, felt very updated and the shower was great.

The place isn’t very clean. Found dust in multiple areas in the room. The toilet seat wasn’t clean. We also found used socks in a drawer. Not acceptable.

Nice relaxed atmosphere. Comfortable bed and room. Staff were helpful. Breakfast was good and affordable. Overall I enjoyed my stay. The hotel is very central and walking distance from a lot of downtown.

Location excellent for all centre , just 100m off the main central, michigan av. All v safe around this area . Good standard for a nice historic , traditional style hotel . Very clean room . Excellent, friendly reception staff esp young Alecia from Mexico ...think that was her name . Al capone once had a secret casino in here. In summary, very good value for money .

The hot water for the shower was lukewarm at best. The hotel overbooked so we were assigned two double beds and wasn’t made aware of the change until after we walked into the room and called to tell the front desk. This was an inconvenience considering it was a special occasion and we slept in the same small bed together, cramped.

Had to ask daily for another roll of toilet paper. Restaurant and coffee bar were closed on Monday and Tuesday. I think that coffee bar should have been available.

Excellent location. Spacious bathroom, but needs more towel racks and handles to get in and out of very deep tub.

Place is a bit dated and wished it was updated a bit but not so much to lose it’s charm.

The staff at this hotel was exceptional. Specifically Craig and Dora went above and beyond to help me make my stay at the Knickerbocker great. Dora has a great personality and customer service was excellent as she helped me out when I had an issue. Craig was great to talk to and had good advice on how to get around Chicago. Would stay here again.

There was no hotel or local information in the room, a local map would have been nice as google maps was not always accurate. It was difficult to find somewhere to get breakfast on the first morning as the hotel breakfast room only opens on certain days. There was no kettle/jug/water boiler in the room, just a coffee maker (and anyone that has made tea using a coffee maker will know it doesn't taste good.)

The hotel is in a side street that is more residential than commercial, which makes the area feel friendlier than a city centre hotel. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was very nice, and the service was excellent. The cocktail bar was worth a visit too. We liked the midday checkout too. About 5 minute walk from Lake Shore Drive and Lake Michigan, it easy enough to walk to Navy Park along the lakeside. Buses run from Michigan Avenue to Union Station and the transfer (bus) station where you can get a 1 or 3 day travel card for the busses which will save you heaps of money. If you are into shopping, then several designer stores are very close.
