Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United StatesInitial instructions to room were unclear. Ambiance of restaurant was odd. No deep water in pool (< 5 ft).
Better food at restaurant than expected. Room was very comfortable, although balcony door was very difficult to open.

AustraliaThe food wasn’t great, would’ve loved to not leave at all but we did to eat lunch and dinner because the food was not good.
Stayed here for our honeymoon, the resort is so very beautiful. Our room was absolutely perfect, so spacious, clean, beautiful view and comfortable. Absolutely loved it.

CanadaThe hotel is quite isolated if you do not rent a car and seemed very expensive for what you get. I imagine it's fine for a sit-by-the-pool and drive-into-town-for-dinner kinda stay, but overall it gets old fast and is very expensive. I also felt there was a lot of "added charges" by the hotel and unreasonable markups, since they have a captive audience at the hotel and there is not much alternatives around. At least I felt slightly gouged and this feels like a management decision rather than god business. Admittedly, many hotels in Hawaii add on these fees to boost profits in a tight industry, but this seemed to be a bit too far at times.
To be honest, the view is amazing and the chief reason I chose this place was because it was so close to where the Manta Ray dives were (and also the harbour to take snorkel trips to Captain Cook). It's very easy to get this set up. I have to say the staff at breakfast (and in general everywhere but reception) were really fabulous and friendly and deserve a lot of the rating that I'm giving.

United StatesThe beds, although comfortable, we're a little small, like full-size beds and not even queen sized so they were a little undersized
The location was convenient to the airport and other surroundings. The grounds were beautiful and we had an ocean front view which was beautiful. Loved the giant sliding glass door to the balcony.

United StatesWhen we got to our room the toilet seat had pee stain under the toilet seat and the bath tub had a soap stain. Other than that the rest of the room was clean. Not sure what was going on in the room above us but it was very disruptive certain times of the night all three nights. Limited food options so we had to uber to center city area which can take some time.
Size of my king bed room was nice. Balcony was also very nice with partial ocean view. Pool area looked great although I didn't have a chance to use it due to my limited stay and other commitments.

United StatesI liked that they provided reusable water bottles and there were water stations in many places. It was also enjoyable to be able to watch manta rays from our oceanfront balcony in the manta wing. They also had a calendar of activities that you could freely join. I also enjoyed the water slide in the pool area.

United StatesLack of food options was very disappointing(well away from town without a car). Closed spa was a major disappointment. Kona Resort & Spa?
The location with ocean view was incredible. But it was very far from other places. Pool area very nice, well maintained. Incredible ocean effects while there, but beaches were closed. No snorkeling. Be prepared.

United StatesIt might be a little drive to the Kona downtown since sometimes in the day there might be a little traffic, but It is not too much of a factor if you plan yourself enough time
The most important reason that people book here is because you can watch the manta from the resort itself! So am I! There were viewing spots ready at nighttime so guests could watch manta without getting into the tours. For someone who isn't a good swimmer, it is definitely for me. The restaurant surprised me a little with its amazing food. Had a local shrimp and the spiced tuna and they are delicious! During the day, there are plenty of resort facilities, a huge pool, and water activities. The surroundings are perfect for a walk, beautifully by the beach. The receptionist gave me a shell necklace as a welcome, which added to the experience.

AustraliaThere was no shell Lai on arrival as advertised. Nothing was said until I asked the next day. Their machines for deposits was not accepting our card and they were having trouble with it. So We paid a cash deposit and explained that it was from our tipping money (small denominations) and requested the same denominations be returned. We were assured this would be done. Upon check out, we were made late due to the staff not knowing we had a cash deposit and they had only left him with large denominations. This lack of communication and organisation was unfortunate. Our hot water also did not warm up and we were left with cold showers. We stayed one night so was not worth the hassle of going back to reception after our manta ray swims.
The hotel was beautiful and the beds were comfortable. The location was superb.

AustraliaBoth hot tubs are connected to the all ages pool - aka a very loud area. Wish one of them was closer to the adult pool. A bit run down from rain - buckets and sand bags everywhere without signs - could have easily tripped.
The room was very spacious and had a large balcony. The pools were large and there is an over 21 pool away from the (loud) kids. Food at the restaurant for dinner was delicious, but the breakfast buffet quality was a bit disappointing.

United StatesOverall, the staff were great, however, the adult pool is located right in the middle of the resort in front of the Pico Lounge and it’s common for kids or young adults to jump in. My teenage son and nephew were in the pool as were other young kids and my kids were the only ones approached by one of the staff members about their age. She made a comment about getting security. This was uncalled for as the kids were not being disruptive and there was other you g adults (not 21) in the pool. My kids felt they were targeted because of their race as the Caucasian kids were not approached. Please note this was limited to one waitress in the Pico lounge that had not business in questioning them and not reflective of the other staff that was great. The waitress was Caucasian and worked on Monday, July 29th. Also, they offer a breakfast and appetizer drink package. The breakfast is very basic and the same every morning. They do not switch it up and the scrambled eggs are runny. Also the appetizers are only available between 4:30-6:30pm which is very inconvenient and not ideal if you are out on excursions and running late. They will not comp you if you miss it, so it’s not worth it if you ask me.
The rooms were very clean, beds were comfortable, pools were not overcrowded.

CanadaResort was under construction when we attended (but we knew that before booking). The poolside restaurant was therefore not open. Resort is off to a good start getting things going again, some growing pains with menu's etc. Need more staff for poolside service of food and drinks - too slow. Laundry service was limited to machines that were working on only a few floors (self serve). The on-site paddleboard/snorkel/beach kit vendor needs a bit of work to get them up to standards for a resort at this price point.
The family pool is really nice if you have children in your group, it is shallow throughout - and the area that has sand is great for small kids. Front desk staff and tour booking staff were attentive and friendly. Night time snorkel with the Manta Rays is an incredible experience - do NOT skip it.
