Breakfast is basic and satisfying. Samesun Rainbow House is conveniently situated in the heart of Ocean Beach's business district-in fact, right next to the Business Center. Everything in OB is walkable, so this is all the more convenient-even on a rainy day.

Bunks are cramped but no worse than any other hostel

Amazing character, warm and welcoming for all travelers. The staff is excellent. Property is frequently cleaned.

The bunks need curtains, so the light from other roommates does disturb others. The Day I arrived my roommate insisted on keeping the lights until 11pm to work, but I'd been up for 21 hours by that time.

I liked the ability to cook my own meals, no pressure to inter mingle, the advice from the front desk staff, and recommendations for transit and places to explore.

Everything was great--no complaints

The breakfast was awesome, many choices. The location could not have been better. Very easy to get to from the Amtrak--only 1 bus if traveling weekdays. The staff were so friendly and helpful. They seemed very committed to everyone feeling comfortable and safe. The rooms were very clean and the beds extremely comfortable. I'd go back anytime!

Secure rooms and key card required for entry into both hostel and rooms. Clean rooms, showers and toilets. Colourful and chill outside area with board games and TV. Great location.

On the day I was actually checking out after a 10-day stay, I had already returned my key and just needed about 30 minutes to pack my luggage. However, she insisted that I move all my things immediately because she suddenly needed to mop the floor—something she had never bothered to do before. It was ridiculous. To make matters worse, she even threatened that I would have to pay extra if I didn’t comply. She acted as if she were the manager or owner of the hostel. Unfortunately, this one woman ruined the otherwise good impression of the hostel. She clearly dislikes her job and does not treat customers well.

Everything here is great, and the sink in the room is really convenient. Most of the staff are friendly, happy, and helpful—except for an older cleaning lady. She never smiles and clearly doesn’t seem to like her job. Every day, when she cleans the room, she only wipes the sink and takes out the trash but never mops the floor. In contrast, a younger cleaning lady did a much better job—she cleaned thoroughly, covering every inch of the floor, and had good manners. Unlike the older cleaner, she made guests feel welcome. The older one, however, gave off the opposite vibe. Everything was great except for one issue: when I climbed into bed, I noticed some dirt on the sheet, which was clearly from the cleaning lady stepping on it.

The breakfast is simple and plentiful; waffles, granola-style muffin, fresh mandarin and hot coffee a great selection of hot tea. The location is great and central to shopping, food, bars and much more. Staff is friendly, informative and helpful.

There are occasionally strange guests.

Everything is so convenient from here! The location is great and the community is very eclectic. I stay here regularly for short work trips to save money and have access to a kitchen to prepare my own food.

There was a little bit of loud talking in the comment area below outside my window as I was on the second floor. It was near quiet time but it didn't last long. The staff is very responsible at letting people know about the noise level late in the evening.
