Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United KingdomWe’re used to having the option to make tea and coffee in the room so was a bit surprised not to have this but as it’s freely available downstairs in the communal kitchen it wasn’t a huge drama. Just meant a dash to the kitchen to make coffee before other guests saw you in your pyjamas. The only real negative for us was that whilst the area was quiet for a city, the acoustics of the hotel weren’t the best. You could hear fellow guests quite easily, and they weren’t purposefully being noisy, just opening and shutting of bedroom doors or bathroom fans.
The location was perfect. Within walking distance of the nearest Metro station and walkable to the main Washington DC sightseeing spots. Georgetown is a great location for mooching about with a variety of shops, restaurants and bars to suit most budgets. Breakfast was great, plenty of choice available. The access to free soft drinks and snacks was appreciated.

United StatesIt didn't bother me, but just understand that it's a small hotel without a front desk or facilities.
A small hotel that is super comfortable and charming. If the location works for you don't hesitate to book.

United StatesCute spot. Probably the cleanest hotel/hostel I’ve stayed at, and with friendly staff. I had one of the rooms on the second floor immediately after the entrance. The windows opened to the street, which introduced some noise, and being so close to the entrance I could hear everyone come in and out. There was a noise cancelling machine built into the room, but it didn’t do much for me. The AC didn’t run very well either so the freezing November nights got pretty chilly. I think it’s the perfect spot for a cozy stay in Georgetown if you arrive in mid-spring to enjoy the garden and DC’s good weather. Try to snag one of the quieter rooms in the back of the property!

IsraelThe only thing I think has to be replaced is the desk in the room, which has a terrible design that does not allow to really sit and work on it.
A great place with a very nice design. You can tell they have been in the details. The vibe in the room is excellent, and there is a good standard from the sheets to the soap.

United StatesNothing. We were very happy with out stay at the Poppy.
The location was wonderful, on a beautiful, charming street. The Poppy is very warm and cozy, and having snacks and beverages available to guests, in addition to the breakfast each morning was really nice. Staff were friendly. We were there in very cold weather, but the outdoor area looks like it would be great in warmer westher.

United StatesI feel it was overpriced for what it was. It is a nice inn, but for this price, I expected a better breakfast at least, like the host making fresh eggs and vegetarian options that weren't carbs, for example.
The location is excellent, and the room is very spacious and clean. The beds are very comfortable. The terrace is lovely, but unfortunately, it was raining while we were there.

AustraliaEven though we knew the room would be small, there was nowhere to put our luggage other than on the floor. This made it awkward to walk easily around the bed. The breakfast cereal options were limited. The breakfast cereal choices were high sugar content cereals, except for Rice Bubbles which in itself is tasteless and has little nutritional value. A sugar and fruit free muesli would have been perfect. There were yogurt based options, but again they were sweet fruit based yogurts. A natural yogurt would be a good option to include. A significant concern and surprise was that the cutlery was single use throw away plastic. This bothered us.
Primarily the location. It was quiet, easy to get to and in a lovely neighbourhood.

United StatesThe Poppy is located in a beautiful, walkable neighborhood with nearby transportation options that made exploring the city easy. The owners and staff were welcoming and helpful, and the other guests were friendly. The guesthouse itself is a comfortable, relaxing space, with lovely rooms and a couple of great outdoor areas to enjoy.

United KingdomAs others have commented, I would prefer there to be less plastic waste at breakfast.
For a hotel close to a major city, The Poppy Georgetown Guesthouse is extremely quite and the location is perfect. We stayed in a King Room with Bath - the room was very spacious. The guesthose is within walking distance of Georgetown's many shops, bars and restaurants, including the waterfront. You can also walk to all the main attractions in downtown Washington if you feel so inclined, although it's only a short hop in an Uber. Due to a flight delay, we arrived late at night. Nico was extremely helpful and provided an easy-to-remember door code to make our arrival and check-in as smooth as possible.
