The experience as a whole. It is really difficult to choose just one thing. Having breakfast and dinner included as add-ons is a MUST for your stay. Try to make it for the shuttle bus time, much easier on the travel. Also add a massage! As soon as you arrive, book one for that night (if you're staying just for one night) because the time slots get filled quickly.

I recently stayed at Ruykan and had a fantastic experience. The location was beautiful, set amidst stunning natural scenery, which made for a peaceful and relaxing environment. The rooms were clean, comfortable, and well-appointed, offering everything needed for a cozy stay. The staff were friendly and always willing to assist, making the check-in and check-out processes smooth and welcoming.
One highlight was the food; the variety and quality exceeded my expectations, and each meal felt crafted with care. Overall, I highly recommend Ruykan to anyone looking for a quiet retreat in a beautiful setting!

this hotel is in a great location, central to everything. The rooms are large, our room was a tatami room. The furniture is a little bit dated, but it was very comfortable. It had a great view of the ocean. The absolute best thing about this hotel are the rooftop open-air onsens. They had seven different onsen to choose from and they were all private and you could look out over the ocean and if you got there early in the morning you could see the sunrise. It was absolutely magnificent. They had stone bathtubs as well as wood bathtubs. I went there multiple times during our stay. The water was deliciously hot, and the view was just incredible.

The experience here was incredible. Ajiro is a quaint town and Teiseikan provides a perfect retreat from the woahs of the city. Staff are very helpful, friendly and willing to assist foreign travelers.
Experience culture authentically with a stay at these traditional Japanese-style accommodations. Sleep on the floor (on a futon roll) in a room furnished with tatami flooring and sliding doors. Guests can often expect access to a communal bath, plus a complimentary Japanese garment called a yukata.

The facilities were excellent, the staff efficient, courteous and helpful. The ocean view from the room and the onsen or hot springs bath was great. The variety and quality of meat, fish and vegetables offered at dinner and breakfast buffet were excellent.
Excellent location, easy to get to from the station. It’s a beautiful ryokan. Onsen with views of the ocean. Staff were very friendly and helpful. It was quiet even though my room was facing the main road. Both breakfast and dinner was excellent. They had a great selection of nihonshu. The staff were well versed in their knowledge of nihonshu and recommended a few to try with my dinner.
Furuya Ryokan was a traditional Japanese ryokan and it was absolutely amazing. The rooms with private onsen baths were incredible - they were huge, traditional, and the baths were amazing. The kaiseki dinners and breakfasts were some of the best meals I have ever eaten. The staff of the ryokan were fantastic across the board, from the check-in desk to the attendant for our room who served all of the meals (and was very patient with a group of 5 American tourists, only one of whom spoke Japanese).
We spent 4 nights at the ryokan. At first we were worried that the booking would be too long. However we loved the trip back in time to a sleepy onsen town The banquet for one dinner and one breakfast was outstanding. We made the most of the Atami area and having lived in Japan it made everything easier
Even though the facilities seems dated, the place was kept very clean. Hot spring faucet (80 degree celcius) in the bathtub was a plus. I loved the tatami portion of the room and the balcony with an ocean view. The receptionists were all very nice and helpful. We were able to leave our luggage there for a few hours after checking out.
The room overlooked the ocean. It was a traditional tatami room, very simple and spacious.
Nice and clean, very quiet as it was off the main street. Very close to cafes and the train station.
I went there specifically for the onsite hot spring bath and home-like stay, rather than a hotel.
The house is located few minutes walk from the train station, in a quiet street. We stayed in a large traditional Japanese room. Futon beds were comfortable. Host was very kind and affectionate. There is a small onsen bath in the house. We felt like visiting family.
This is almost a ryokan style place. Very Japanese, with tatami room and older Japanese style bathroom, bathroom and toilet were separated. Staff was very friendly and caring, they don't speak English and basic Japanese is very helpful here, though I would say it could be handled even without knowing a word in Japanese. This place is close to the train station (5-7 min walking), provides a simple breakfast (tea/coffee and croissant), we've also received some cookies on the check-out.
Room with amazing view from private onsen. A lot exception personal touches in room with a lot of stuff like toothbrush luxury hand creams face washes etc. Got to wear own Yukata. Big sized room. Both evening meal and breakfast meal were amazing very delicious. Public onsen bath with sauna and cold plunge pool very quite had the whole place to myself both times I attended. Staff exceptionally friendly very welcoming. Complimentary taxi to Atami station (5 minutes) very steep if you brave the walk!
