Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

SpainFar from the beach, but walking down took 1h so that was okay and a taxi up cost 5,000CRC. The matress in the shared dorm (with mosquito next) was the worst matress I have had in a hostel (but the rest of the place compensated)
The view, the remoteness, the shared kitchen and shared facilities were amazing! Really feeling you are in the forest and the upper deck with the open space to the forest gave such tranquility! Just next to a beautiful small waterfall (not free)

ChileKitchen wasn't that well equipped and the breakfast seemed expensive. The outbuilding that we stayed in seemed a little run down compared to the main building.
Beautiful common area and views from the terrace. Showers were warm. Good location.

Costa RicaBeds were damp, which I suppose is hard to avoid given the nature of the location but was quite unpleasant sleeping on a damp mattress... Not a dislike but definitely bring earplugs as the rainforest and the rain are VERY noisy!
Incredible scenery. Really nice feel to the whole place. Very clean. Good location as long as you have a car. AMAZING shower.

NetherlandsThe views and the open set-up are amazing, you truly feel part of the surrounding forrest! Mind you: the rooms are open at the top so don't expect too much privacy. (In our opinion that's part of the experience!) The staff was very kind and helpful and there's enough opportunity to mingle with other guests if you wish to but also enough spots to retreat, there's quiet time between 10pm and 6am. There's also a nice communal kitchen and free coffee! Location is great because of the amazing views (the pictures do NOT oversell) but also due to the proximity to the Uvita waterfall (1500 entry fee). Town and the beach is a little further away, but still doable, by car it's just a few minutes. For driving I'd recommended a 4x4 for the part closest to the hostel.

NetherlandsA little pricey for a room with private bathroom. Location is pretty far from the beach if you are interested in that.
What a unique and wonderful place! It is kind of an eco-lodge in the nature, a little out the way, but it’s part of the experience. Very close to Uvita waterfall (5 min walk). There is plenty of spots - hammocks and chill chairs - to relax and the kitchen is very well stocked. Although the kitchen turns into an episode of the Masterchef every evening - but it’s fun! Good socializing as well.

SwedenQuite few toilets for this amount of people (quite understandable because of location). Old, not very fresh towels.
Location in the jungle! Very close to the Verde waterfall (paid) as well as to other nice free places (other waterfalls, bamboo forest, hiking tracks). Nice staff. Very well organized. Spacious and well organized room. The strict quiet hours - thanks to them one can hear the jungle :)

CanadaA huge bug joined us in bed. My partner shooed him out - but a bug net that covered the whole bed would have been great! There was a large area unprotected in the netting. All in all not a big issue, but the bug was huge and others might be more put off then we were.
Amazing kitchen - well stocked and quite large! It still got busy at times, but it was so much better than the kitchens I'd seen at some other hostels. This place felt more like a retreat than a hostel. The setting is amazing. It feels so relaxing and zen, and being in the jungle is just amazing. Love how there are some games to play too. Enjoyed Yahtzee! The game collection could use a little refreshing, however. My partner and I just had one night here, and would have enjoyed having a but more time. Well done all around!

SwitzerlandCool place to be in the nature, but it is far from the bus station and from the beach. The kitchen was too small because everybody cooked at the same time. The room was spacious but ours was right next to the road, so we heard all the cars leaving in the morning. The common space is very nice.

FranceNot a lot of parking spots Way up pretty tricky and slippery some days Not enough showers Not enough fridges (not space for everyone) Breakfast pretty expensive for what it is, think about going grocery shopping before getting to there and make your own. Careful they charge you about 12% extra if you pay by card! Bring cash! Walls don't go all the way up between bedrooms --> pretty noisy No shelves or storage in the room, not convenient
Staff friendly and really helpful! Good recommendations, and partnership for tours, really convenient Awesome place to meet people Incredible outdoors and communal places (one of the best sunsets ever) Middle of nowhere, pretty cool to relax but a bit far from everything, balancing between these two

United States- hobby bunk bed, couldn't sleep a minute all night - the private rooms are separated with a 'cardboard' from each other, a super thin wall that doesn't go to the roof. You can hear or even see if you stand on the stool what your neighbors do next door. When a person walked inside the wooden house, entire floor was shaking. - no mosquito net in the window, all kinds of bugs were coming in the room all night - full fridge - lack of sanitation in the kitchen so couldn't cook
- the nature around

United StatesTo get to the hostel you need to go through the dark forest in the evening. No lamps so it can feel a bit unsafe. Bunk beds extremely uncomfortable, entire bed shakes when a person above or below turns over. No curtains. When it comes to a prive room where I stayed as well, the room was separated with a super thin low wall, you could hear everything what your neighbours were doing. Zero privacy. Internet in many places of the hostel doesn’t work.

Nicaragua- Around 70% of the guests ranged from their late 50's to early 70's, and there were also a number of small children (7-10 years old) running around. Not necessarily a problem, but if felt a lot more like a retirement home than a hostel, and there was almost no social interaction between groups. - The price you agreed on when you booked is only the "cash price". If you want to pay by card, they charge and additional 6%, which is crazy, especially given how much they charge, how far the ATM is, and how much the ATMs charge to withdraw money. This is the only time in Panama or Costa Rica I've been charged to use my card, and the most I've ever been charged in any of the 70+ countries I've traveled (usually 1-3% if anything). - There are countless signs everwhere (even partially blocking the viewing deck) threatening fines for just about everything... $500 for drugs, $200 for smoking, $200 for eating or drinking on the deck, $10 to bring a guest, $10 if you check out up to 1hr late, $20 if you miss checkout, etc... It's unnecessary, unsightly, and creates a hostile feeling. - The bunk beds are poorly built from cheap/scrap wood and screws, giving them next to no stability. If either beds occupant shifts even a little, the entire bed shakes. The mattresses are also incredibly thin and sag, so you're essentially just sleeping on wooden slats, and even folding the pillow three times barely gives it any thickness. No one in our room managed to sleep through a single night. - The hostel is quite far from town/restaurants/shops (25-30min walk, in the heat, with no shade), and they don't offer a shuttle. Your options are to walk it or pay $6 one way for a taxi.
- Between the staff, volunteers, and people cleaning up after themselves, the hostel was kept quite clean. The staff seemed friendly in general. - If you're interested in visiting the little water fall in the area ($4pp), it's literally right around the corner. The beach is around an hour walk away (there is a charge to enter). - There's a nice swimming area in the nearby river (20-25 minute walk). Currently there is no cost, but who knows if it will stay that way. - The hostel is surrounded by trees/vegetation and has a nice view from the upper deck. There was pretty much no "street noise", although the cicades were almost deafening.

Netherlands- Bunk Beds are extremely unstable. Whenever a girl below me was turning over, entire bed was shaking and it was waking me up. I couldn't sleep even for 10 min without being woken up. The next night I moved to the bed above thinking it would be better but was not. It was like sleeping in a boat and I felt the bed would collapse any minute. I have slept in over 100 bunk beds in my life but have never slept in such unstable one. Extremely cheaply made, no curtains, nothing. Paid to sleep, couldn't sleep at all. - Internet in many places in the hostel didn't work - I opened a drawer with cutlery in the kitchen at night to get a spoon and the drawer was full of cockroaches crawling on the silverware. In the morning staff uses these plates and silverware to make breakfast for guests without washing it. Generally cleanliness in the kitchen was very bad and there was only cold water in the sink. - Fridges are always full and food disappears from them all the time.
- the guys at the reception was very energetic and involved and his English was great
